Oval Edition - 4WAY RC SPEEDWAY

Out in Abilene, Texas is an infamous hobby shop and RC track that many people visit from far and wide. Both are ran by Bryan Schroth aka "Papa Bear", who from what we have learned, has basically been racing his entire life.

He started racing RC cars as an early teen, but then switched to "big cars" in the very early 90s. He spent almost 10 years racing hard and turning a lot of lefts at high speed before he settled into his 23-year career of owning his own mechanic shop, Altered Concepts.

Of course, as any real racer does, he could not sit idle when he gave up "big car" racing. He ended up opening up Fatboy's Hobby Shop in Abilene while also working his full-time job, eventually moved the hobby shop to a new location with more space and then BOOM..... added a race track. His oval track and shop are a favorite amongst traveling racers, as it indoors, grooves up really well and he stocks what most of his racers need as often as he can.

This track is fully ran and operated by Bryan, along with the help of his wife of 24 years, Liz.. or "little bit" as some call her. One of the races that this family is known for hosting is their yearly "Zoee Nutterbutter Memorial Race" that they began in honor of their granddaughter who sadly passed of cancer at 6 years old. The family asked us to let you know that the next race is being held November 16th!

When we asked Bryan what he loves about RC racing and why he does what he does, his response was simple. "I love spending time with other racers who love racing. It makes for good memories and fun competition." You may see his wife running around or his granddaughter Addison politely telling you "IT IS TIME TO GO" when she is ready to go, but most importantly they will all make you feel welcome if you want to come race.

This track races once a week, has 40 pit spots inside and plenty of space for more to be added outside if you bring what you need. The size of the track is 70ft from end to end and 35ft in width, and Bryan tends to it often to make sure it is ready for race day.

We invite you all to come to this amazing track and meet this owner who has put his heart and soul into it. Our interviewer especially felt that Byan was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about most things oval related, and we appreciate the time he took during the interview to share his experiences.

Are you going to Barnestown this weekend?
Here are some things to know from the Owner of the track:

1. There is power in several places for normal usage.
2. Bring your table, chair, pop up tents, coolers and extension cord!
3. There are NO RV or trailer hookups.
4. There is water and air for cleaning.
5. Covered driver stand.
6. They have a bathroom with A/C.
7. There will be pulled pork sandwiches, sausage wraps, chips and water all being sold Saturday during lunch time! Cash app or Zelle is a good payment.

September has a LOT OF RC PRO RACING GOING ON!

We have TWO off-road races and TWO oval races this month.

Here is what you have to look forward to.

This upcoming weekend, September 6-8 is BARNESTOWN Off-road race. Friday and Saturday with the possibility of Sunday Mains depending on entries.

Next up after that on Saturday the 21ist a round at 4WAY Oval Track!

Finally, we have the double event y'all have been waiting for since it was first scheduled months ago at SHAWS RC TRACK in Oklahoma! We are going for a second try and it will be both Off-road and Oval running the last weekend of September! More info to come on that.

Save those dates and look for the posts coming this week about Barnestown.

After speaking with the staff at Indy RC World, we have decided to reschedule the RC PRO FINALS for OVAL to Saturday, November 2nd. The reason this decision was made is due to a Memorial Race in honor of Silky Johnson that is being held at Taylor Park Raceway on that same day.

Silky was a staple of Oval racing, and we hope you all make it out to honor him and do some good racing.

Due to all the local area tracks holding racing throughout October, as well as the busy schedule that Indy RC World holds as well, November 2nd is the only date we have for our finals.

Tonight you can club race there with gates opening at 4, racing at 6.

Tomorrow is the series, with a little twist added in that you’ll find out at the drivers meeting! Drivers meeting is at 12:45!

What to know about racing Oval at STR this weekend!

Outside of the hours and race times, here is some good info to know when you come to this track!

1. There is specific areas for parking, pit tables, trailers and RV's! If you are confused about where to go there will be someone you can ask who will point you in the right direction.

2. The track asks that you pit in front of behind your vehicle, as they share a parking lot with Paintball which is right next door!

3. They are running the traxxas modified as an added non trophy class in case you want to bring yours! SC MOD has also been dropped from the trophy classes due to lack of participation.

4. RV's and Trailers are welcome but there is no water hookups on side. Bring a Generator!

5. Whatever you need to pit, bring it! STR has the site and the track, but the rest is up to you. This is true backyard racing so you get the full experience of old school RC racing.

6. The track ONLY takes payments in form of CASH and PAYPAL! Cost of racing is 30/20/20 with novice being 10.

7. There will be a food truck ON SITE, Saturday from 2pm - 5pm and the Staff highly encourages you all to grab some AMAZING BBQ from it.

8. The track crew made some awesome adjustments to the Oval for the racers, so give the track a chance and come race on it!

Do you know who your RD is : STR Raceway Edition

This August at STR Raceway we have both the OVAL race on August 10th and the Off-road race the weekend of August 17th... with the RD for both being the one and only Charlyn Elliot! Known by many as Charley or the "Track Mom", she has been a part of STR Raceway since 2022 and is a favorite of the track.

Her family showed up at STR after they had spent many years with her husband racing "big cars" on the "big tracks". As most do, they arrived at the RC track to check it out and was instantly hooked. It did not take long for Charley and her husband to become board members and work the track, and every month you can find them all there including her son who also races regularly with his dad.

We have found out over the last few interviews we have done with various RD's that they all have a wide range of skills, and Mrs. Elliot is no exception. She has several degrees from college including an Associate's in criminal justice as well as one in Public Relations, a Bachelor's in emergency management and is currently working on getting her Masters! So not only does she work at the track, she is also going to school as well as working at her full time job for a non-profit organization. It makes sense why she said she runs on the fuel of coffee. (Starbucks gift cards are the way to her heart, in case anyone wanted to know.)

STR is a club ran track with Board where Charley is the Treasurer on top of being the RD of the facility. She also has helped with social media and PR which is where she started in her beginning days at STR. We could tell that her love for this hobby and this track runs deep when we interviewed her, especially when she spoke about the local racers.

When we asked Charley what she loved most about STR she said "the camaraderie and the friendship at our track is what I love. We are a family." She made a light joke about how the racers are close and are comparable to a PG version of a Biker Gang, and that really makes us want to go out there and meet their crew!

This local track mom invites you all to come out to their track and give their Oval or their Off-road a try! It is located in San Angelo, and she guarantees the local racers will make all newcomers feel welcome!

STR - San Angelo, Texas race track has been putting in some work all day today to prepare for their rc pro races.

We are told their track is now larger than ever and measures at 33.5' width x 82' length.

A few more nails and this track is gonna be ready. These jumps are massive. Jared Wiggens build some great jumps and this is true outdoor Offroad racing. Track got a tone of water tonight and will get the same in the morning. Throughout the day we will keep it wet. Saturday will make some awesome racing out here at A#1 Air Raceway at Action park. We are leaning more towards a 1 day event. We will make the call Saturday morning at the drivers meeting.

Track is looking awesome for some good racing tomorrow at ELDO RC.

Tyler Wiggens is out there at Saratoga-Flowood RC Raceway with practice going. Track looks amazing.

We are here and people are getting some late night practice in. I can take your sign ups tonight. Come see me or Tori at the Amain tent until the light is turned off. Then I will be up at 7am ready for more sign ups. Practice will be 8am-9am Saturday

The Badlands RC Track is ready for some racing. The little bit of rain helped water the track. Racing starts at 11am. Get signed up with Tyler Wiggins, he has a bunch of raffle prizes to go out.

Tyler Wiggins got some video of the track earlier today. It looks like a ton of fun. Nice sized and well built jumps. Practice at Badlands RC Track practice was good. We can’t wait for some good racing tomorrow.

Weather is looking good out here at Badlands Rc Track. Track looks good. People are starting to pull in and get ready for practice. Tyler Wiggins is there and ready with a bunch of raffle prizes. Practice is 1pm-8pm today.

Alright everyone alittle update as far as to what’s goin with the round 1 east race that was scheduled for VPRC Raceway. With Dave having health issues and not receiving much help to get the track ready unfortunately they have decided to skip this years rc pro. With that being said the replacement race for this will be held at a brand new track called ELDO Rc in Eldorado Arkansas on sat July 15th! Yes we are all aware it will be a warm one but this is what we’ve made the call to do. Here is also a clip of the facility they are putting a ton of work into for them to start racing! We’re very excited to be adding some more new track to the rc pro series.
