Musicians for Hire-Please share!

Greater New Hope Baptist Church in 722 E. Pecan Street, Sherman TX 75090, is presenting “Hosanna" on December 22, 2024. At this moment, we are in need of a Pedal Harpist, 2 Trumpet Players, 2 Violinists, a pianist who can accompany us on the keyboard as a secondary keyboardist to play string sounds, a bassist, a gospel and Latin guitarist, and a soprano female soloist, to accompany our Band and choir. For this concert, the genre style will be mixed of classical and gospel. The purpose of our request is to form a small orchestra to assist our keyboardist, drummer, and Timpani.

Currently, we are having rehearsal every Wednesday; however, all we ask is for the additional musicians to accompany us on the week of December 22,2024 for 1 or 2 rehearsals. The main Dress Rehearsal will be on December 21, 2024, as we prepare the sound and stage for the next Big Day.

We are excited to announce that Beth Rudy has joined our school as a Violin Teacher here in Garland! Beth’s road to a lifelong study of violin began when she was inspired by hearing her elementary school orchestra when she was eight years old. Her parents encouraged her interest and enrolled her in classes and private instruction. She continued playing through high school and won a scholarship to study violin at the University of North Texas, where she earned a degree in violin performance. Her professional career has included performances in many places, including Connecticut, Milwaukee, Denver, Dallas, and even Carnegie Hall! She has a love for teaching others from children to adults and seeks to instill a love for music that can enrich our lives while making learning music fun!! Please join us for the World Doctors Orchestra performances on Thursday, October 19, at 8pm at SMU Caruth, 6101 Bishop Boulevard, Dallas, TX 75205 and Friday, October 20 at 7:30pm at the Eisemann Center, 2351 Performance Drive, Richardson, TX 75082.

The orchestra is composed of physician musicians from all around the world as well as many from the local DFW area. The program includes works of Gershwin, Grofe Grand Canyon Suite, and the world premiere of a double Violin and Viola Concerto Cor Et Cerebrum. Piano soloist Dr. Noah DeGarmo, a local emergency medicine physician and recent recipient of a jury discretionary award at the Amateur Cliburn International Piano Competition, will be performing Gershwin's Second Rhapsody, which includes a new cadenza commissioned for this event. Mark and Ute Miller, both members of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, will be performing the world premiere of Benedikt Brydern's Concerto for Violin, Viola and Orchestra. All ticket proceeds go to two local medical charities, Gill Children's Services and Woven Health Clinic.

We opened as a sheet music business on Oct. 14, 1864, expanded into instrument selling and manufacturing, and built our first harp in 1889. That's 159 years old with 134 years of harpmaking! Please use this as an excuse to eat your favorite dessert.

🎵 The 2025 Summer Institute will incorporate AHS's first Harp Ensemble Festival!

The AHS Dallas Chapter is looking forward to welcoming everyone to Texas in June 2025. The Harp Ensemble Festival's purpose is to encourage musical collaboration, the building of community through harp ensembles, and to inspire harpists of all ages and levels to advance their ensemble performance skills. By hosting a national event during which ensembles perform programs, the AHS Ensemble Festival offers an opportunity for participants to receive valuable feedback and ratings from preeminent harpists and adjudicators.

Ensembles can participate in six divisions, five based on age from under 12 through college, and one open division for any age harpists. Ensembles in each Division may participate in one or more categories: Duet, Trio, Quartet, Medium Ensemble (up to 12 harpists), and Large Ensembles (more than 12 harpists).

Rock on!

Born 100 years ago, Cordell Jackson was an American guitarist thought to be the first woman to produce, engineer, arrange and promote music on her own rock and roll music label.

Jackson founded the Moon Records label in Memphis in 1956. Unable to break into the Sun label's stable of male artists, she received the advice and assistance of RCA Records' Chet Atkins in forming this new label to release her music. She began releasing and promoting on the label singles she recorded in her home studio, serving as engineer, producer and arranger. The artists recorded included her and a small family of early rock and roll, rockabilly, and country music performers she recruited from several Southern states.

Her Moon Records label was the oldest continuously operating label in Memphis at the time of her death in 2004. The 50s Rock on the Moon of Memphis, Tennessee + an Oddity, a compilation album of the label's 1950s singles, was released on vinyl in the early 1980s and was later sold on compact disc until her death in 2004.

She died in Memphis in 2004, aged 81.
