1975: Storm King's David Collens perfects the lighting for Louise Nevelson's "Luminous Zag: Night". David had joined just one year earlier and went on to lead the museum's curatorial program for the next 47 years.

This year, David has transitioned to the role of Director Emeritus. Throughout his tenure, David has worked closely with artists, like Nevelson, to organize exhibitions and present their work in Storm King's unique setting. His approach to collaboration always centers the artist, creating space and offering encouragement to realize their vision.

In October, Storm King will present David with The Storm King Award at our Annual Gala. Given in recognition of meaningful contributions in the fields of visual arts, landscape, and nature conservation, the award honors David's decades-long dedicated to Storm King and the indelible mark he's made on the institution.
