My grandmother, who just passed away at age 94, told me this story: When she was around 10 years old, she and her siblings were playing outdoors up ‘til dark. Suddenly, she said the sky turned red and began “quivering.” It was the early 1940s in rural WV, and there was a lot going on in the world. Immediately, the family was afraid and started crying. Someone wondered if it was Jesus coming back. A few years later, my other grandmother, “Granny,” told me a story about how they were playing outside on the edge of dark. Suddenly, the sky started “quivering” as it had turned bright red. She said they were afraid. They thought Jesus was coming back to get them. I’m assuming it wasn’t common to see the Aurora this far south back then. Their stories always intrigued me because I’d never seen it for myself. A few week back was the first time I ever saw it. It was ALL red! No green! Tonight’s show was green and red and got brighter as the night went on. As it went further south, the sky got redder.
