We are sharing this on behalf of our brother in hopes that it reaches someone out there that can save his life ๐๐ผ
Dear Potential Donor,
I hope this letter finds you well. Words cannot fully express the depth of my gratitude for your willingness to explore the possibility of donating a kidney. Your selfless consideration brings hope and light to my life during this challenging time. This is one of the hardest tasks l've ever faced, and I'm still learning about the process myself. As you know, my kidneys are failing, and seeking a donor is not easy - buy knowing that someone like you is even considering this admirable act gives me strength. I understand that the kidney donation process can seem complex, so I wanted to share some key steps, based on information from Cedars-Sinai:
Everything is Free of Charge
1. Initial Interview and Compatability
Assessment: The first step is typically an online questionnaire to assess compatibility and medical history. This helps determine if further evaluation is appropriate.
1. Comprehensive Medical Evaluation: If you're a potential match, you'll undergo a detailed review of your medical history, physical exam, and psychosocial assessment to ensure donation is safe for you.
2. Medical and Psychosocial Review: This includes blood and urine tests, imaging studies, and counseling to ensure you're comfortable with your decision.
3. Surgical Procedure: If approved, you'll meet with a surgeon to discuss the procedure. The surgery itself typically takes about three to four hours, and most donors are home within a few days.
4. Post-Donation Care: After donation, you'll have follow-up visits to monitor your health.
Living with one kidney doesn't usually limit your lifestyle. I recognize this is a significant commitment, one that reflects incredible courage and compassion. Your willingness to consider this means the world to me. I am grateful for your support during this journey.
With heartfelt thanks, David "Big Sleeps" Cavazos
