Hey friend,
Over the years we realized that the success of any school is not only about creating great students but to keep farming great coaches.
Only with great coaches, we will have great students.

1. We are currently looking to hire new personnel, we are always in need of Fitness coaches, Kickboxing coaches, Cardio Kickboxing coaches as well staff to work on events like Parents Night out, Day camps and Summer camp.

Hey Friend,

We have a couple of rules about the uniforms at Sampa, please make sure you acknowledge them and help us to respect them.
Uniforms must be clean – A clean gi is a sign of respect towards your training partners, Do you know that you can’t compete with a dirty gi nor a torn gi?
In Brazil, we use the word Kimono for our Gis, so kimono must be washed after every single class, like any other cloth of yours.

You should not wash your belt, except in cases you have dropped food or something else in it or you have sued too much in it, dragged on the floor, etc., and made it very dirty.

Only three colors are allowed to be worn at Sampa Jiu Jitsu – White – Blue and Black (Black only for advanced class). No grey, nor green nor yellow, nor camouflage neither read are allowed.

The color of the jacket must match the color of the paints.
NO EXCEPTIONS!

In the past, we allowed some kids to use the pink gi or kimono, it is still allowed but we are moving away from it.

We do sell gis at our school but differently than many other schools we do not obligate people to buy our own gi, the policy could change.

But we do urge everyone to wear our patches in their gis, we are still a team and it does look good and give a great sense of pride when everyone has the school patches and shirts when in class.

The same can be said to Fitness classes and to the No-gi classes, having our t-shirts make the class so neat and we all can experience a great sense of team, camaraderie, and pride.

If you need to buy a gi/kimono or a patch or a t-shirt from us please contact the front desk immediately and they will be glad to help. Very often we do sales to help people buy the uniform and be ready for class.

Eligibility not Entitlement
We decided to write this article to explain the belt systems and stripes acquisition at Sampa jiu-jitsu so everyone is on the same page
The first couple of belts in our school are not too hard to conquer, in fact, they are more about showing up.

Actually, there is a saying: “99% of success is about showing up”.

Later of course when kids and adults evolve to their 3rd belt level we as coaches require more responsibility from the athlete, to ensure more performance and legitimacy for subsequent belts.

To make it clear every time a student receives a stripe he or she must spend some time in that stripe until receiving the next one.

Only four stripes are rewarded in each belt so after the fourth stripe, a student must again respect the grace period in that stripe and then wait for the instructor to say that he or she is eligible for the next belt.

But it is appropriate now to say, that even when the grace period is up, it is still up to the coach and the school board to decide if the student is legit and ready to the next belt.

Meaning, after the grace period in the fourth stripe the student is eligible to receive the next belt but not yet entitled.

Our concern is not only to water down our program but also not to beat up our kid’s confidence. We want our kids to work hard for what they want and instill hard work ethics in everything they put their time into.

That is why in BJJ – Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu we do not allow kids to have a black belt, because it requires a huge maturity process and sense of responsibilities that kids many times do not have.

A long time ago Prof. Renato with the help of Sampa Staff had developed a great DVD set about Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu that covers pretty much the basics, essentials, or fundamentals techniques the one must learn in the first 2 years, maybe a bit more.

Having this DVD set will help you to refer to classes and memorize the techniques and quickly develop your game plan.

Of course, you must know, learn and develop other techniques that we do not cover on the DVD set but it is a hack of a starting point and will save you from many mistakes in your journey!

We decided to write this article to explain our Culture to everyone at Sampa jiu-jitsu, so everyone is on the same page including fitness students.
it is imperative to abide by our rules and culture in order for to everyone have the best time here. It is also OK to change schools just because you believe our culture and rules do not relate to the moral code, values, and ethics you have or want for your child.

Jiu-Jitsu/Judo is an art where a more elevated sense of behavior is appropriate.

Sampa Students should always use Jiu-Jitsu/Judo/Martial arts to develop their body and mind through minimum effort and maximum efficiency with mutual respect to themselves and others.

The one who practices martial arts at Sampa does not seek perfection to fight but fight to seek perfection.
A great student is the one who pursues intelligence, to comprehend what is taught, has the patience to pass on what was taught to others, and has faith to believe in what is not yet comprehended.

If you are thinking about being defeated, you have already lost.

To approach perfection, one needs to chase it with consistency, wisdom, and overall humility.

Learn every day a little bit more and use it every day for the good in the way of true men.

When one realizes with sadness that does not know enough, he has made the first step towards progression.

Dear student,

it is imperative to abide by our rules and culture in order for everyone to have the best time here. It is also OK to change schools just because you believe our culture and rules do not relate to the moral code, values, and ethics you have or want for your child.

1. Respect the Dojo at all times!
2. No food or drinks on the mats
3. Always bow on and off the mat
4. Do not walk barefooted in the restrooms or in the parking lot.
5. Do not step on the mat with shoes
6. Place shoes on the shoe rack
7. If late to class please wait for permission to enter the mat
8. Always salute professors and coaches before anyone else.
9. Coats/Bags must be stored neatly on shelves and hangers
10. Do not play on mats and/crash pads before/during/after class
11. MEN must wear shirts in the dojo at ALL TIMES
12. EVERYONE must wear a clean shirt under the Gi and NO jewelry may be worn
13. ALWAYS use SCHOOL UNIFORM in Class - Patches Must be worn.
14. Only WHITE and BLUE Gis may be worn. Girls may also wear PINK Gis. BLACK Gis are for ELITE
MEMBERS ONLY
15. Please try to have a short over the legging/spats pants, especially if training Martial Arts.
16. Instructors/teachers should be addressed as professors, coach,es or sensei depending on rank.

ALL STUDENTS MUST HAVE A POSITIVE ATTITUDE, CLEAN UNIFORMS, AND GOOD
HYGIENE.

Do Not Burp, Fart, or make any related noise.
Always have your nails trimmed.
Do not use foul language when at the dojo/academy.

Avoid inappropriate outbursts even if injured.
ALWAYS help those who know less. Talking should be kept to a minimum and always related to the class subject.

Avoid being a bully.
Avoid excuses
Do not make a big deal when tapping out a partner, keep it to yourself.
Dedicate yourself to the fundamentals of Martial arts and Fitness
Practice Sampa's Moral Code: Politeness, Courage, Sincerity, Honor, Modesty, Respect, Self-Control,
Friendship, Genuine knowledge, Indomitable Spirit.

All Parents are asked to:
1. Refrain from interacting with their child in any way during class. No COACHING allowed.
2. Refrain from speaking with Coaches/Professor/Sensei during class. Please schedule an appointment instead.
3. Remain quiet on the sides during class.
4. Make sure siblings of students do not disturb the class.
5. Kids Playroom can be used only when the After School Program is not in session. Replace toys and Games neatly.
Pick Up and Drop Off: All students should arrive 15 minutes before class and have attendance cards in hand when the class begins. Inform the Academy's staff if someone other than you will be picking them up.

Do You know what we think about Tournaments?

At Sampa BJJ we like to see jiu-jitsu as a lifestyle, we train jiu jitsu because it is good for our body and for our mind, we will achieve confidence, self-respect, and much more other benefits.

Budo means "martial way" and refers to those martial disciplines whose ultimate goal is spiritual, ethical and/or moral self-improvement. That been said, competition is just one way to live the martial arts of jiu jitsu.

Competition is not the only meaning of BJJ.
It is a fact that many schools are solely focused in competition, it is not bad but also it is not the complete experience of the art of jiu jitsu.

Here at Sampa Jiu-Jitsu we recommend all the students to complete a few times per year, for those who decide to become competitors and get serious about it we even recommend them to quit their job and dedicate solely to the sport. Many people can’t quit their jobs but they can still enjoy the Martial art journey.

We understand that competitions can be annoying for the parents and also overwhelming for the kids at the early stages.

That is why at Sampa BJJ, we offer our in-house competitions and festivals, a great way to educate the kids about the rules, how to behave in competition, warm-up, as well teaching the parents how to behave properly. A great way to train for the actual competition in a safe and controlled environment.

Register yourself or child to our next competition and do not miss the chance to learn!

Do not focus solely on results, do not force your child to compete, avoid early specialization (let your child play
other things), Not everyone will get a scholarship, not everyone will be an Olympian, let your child have fun, interfere less and know that 70% of the kids in the USA quit any organized sports by the age of 13, just because parents push too much towards results.
