Dear Members,
Remember the days when this time of the year the club would be buzzing getting the club all spruced up for the big opening night to begin the Crowning week?
Imagine it has been 15 years since the GFC held its last Crowning.
Well time really has flown by and some of the members are no longer with us but their memories are always with us at the GFC.
This year the GFC was approached by the DES Club and they extended an invitation to the club to participate in their Annual Crowning procession. The intention of the DES was twofold. First, it would give the GFC an opportunity to participate with our crown in the procession and second it was a way to bring the two Portuguese clubs closer together.
As President, I approached the board with the idea and they were really excited about the idea of the GFC processing with our crown. I then appointed a committee consisting of Gary Grimes, Jackson Swett, Steve Pizzo, Darren Marques and Shawn “Lucky” Pavon and myself. The committee has been talking with the DES and learning about the tradition, also the committee has been researching the tradition by reading about past Crowning’s at the GFC from the clubs 50th Anniversary book.
So as president, I am excited that the GFC will once again bring the crown to life by joining the DES Club in their procession.
Our plan is, on Sunday June 16, 2019 we will meet at the GFC Club at 8:00 am and then process with the crown and the Holy Spirit flag leaving the club by 8:30 am. We will join the DES at their club by 9:00 am to begin the procession to meet their Imperator at his home. We then will proceed to the church for the mass.
The DES is speaking with the band to see if they would be willing to come to the GFC to begin the procession. I am excited to think that we may be able to have the band and have the traditional music as in days past.
As president, I am asking the Guest, Regular, Life members and the Ladies Auxiliary along with their family and friends to process with the GFC on that day.
I hope to see you all there.
Fraternally yours,
Chris Markuson
President
