This is Reggie. He just a little over 2 years old. 8 months ago, Jessica and I saw a posting on FB about this abandoned dog, left in the woods to die. He needed help. After conversations with the Angel who was trying to find him a home, Jessica and I took a ride 30 miles into the everglades to rescue him. We were standing in a driveway when I felt a nudge from behind. I turned around and this adorable boy was sitting there giving me his paw and his best doggie smile. He was thin, beaten up, dirty but sweet. 8 months later, Reggie has become a great dog. He was able to overcome separation anxiety, he is great on a leash, he has learned to fetch and loves our other rescues.
Consider opening your home to a rescue dog, they will love you for it.

Urgent action needed as Residential rezoning marches forward...we must unite to end this now!
Please help reject the proposed new apartment complex called Mattson Project located on the north side of Vanderbilt Beach Road east of Livingston. It calls for 150 new housing units on 5.8 acres of land.

A. There are apparently no plans for retention facilities to handle heavy runoff of rainwater from buildings and parking lots. This could overwhelm the storm sewer system and result in widespread flooding and backups.

B. The developers are using the "affordable housing" loophole as a method of getting around county zoning ordinances. This area is zoned for low density housing. Mattson intends to rent to people who work and commute. The renters will be subjected to:
1. Increased housing density from 60 dwelling units allowable to 150.
2. Reduced amount of usable open space from 60% required to just 40%.
3. Reduced requirement for trees.
4. Reduced parking.

A longtime resident writes:
"Mattson’s justification for increasing the density relies on its illusory promise to devote 30% of units to income restricted affordable housing. Mattson admits that only the first renters who occupy the affordable housing set-aside units must qualify as a first responder, teacher, etc. Once those renters leave (and renters do not stay long), Mattson will be free to rent to whomever they please without restriction. They promise to advertise to the target audience, but they do not promise to rent to such people, thereby completely defeating their justification. Renters do not stay long term. This is an example of the government attempting to fix a problem (insufficient housing for service providers) that will have a very short life in practice. Personally, although I understand the need to let people live near their places of employment, such conditions are not a guarantee in life. When I entered the workforce, I commuted 1.5 hours each way into the city of Chicago for employment for years because I could not afford housing in the city center. And I am not alone in this experience. No one is guaranteed housing just down the road from a beautiful beach, in the center of an attractive area close to his/her place of employment."

It's extremely important that the Collier County Commissioners hear from a large number of concerned residents.

Collier County Residents...time to take a close look at who you vote for County Commissioner...These Commissioners all admitted to receiving more than 500 emails asking them to support Commissioner Saunders's moratorium on rezoning. Hundreds attended this public hearing to support this moratorium, every speaker except a realtor spoke in support of the moratorium.
Yet after all of this Chris Hall, Rick LoCastro, Dan Kowal and Bill McDaniel sat in silence when Burt Sanders asked for "second". Even after Commissioner Saunders admitted, we approved these rezones one at a time and they got away from us...those 4 made a choice to side with someone other than their constituents.
Time to clean house? Maybe we need a one issue election to preserve our county.

The Collier Board of County Commissioners denied the request for a one-year moratorium on some of East Naples' busy roads, however, they say they are working to fix some of the traffic stress.

So, time to unload on Mason Classical Academy...
A little over a month ago my neighborhood became aware of MCA's plan to demolish 4 homes and bulldoze 17 acres on 7th Ave NW in Golden Gate Estates.
My experience with the folks who run that public charter school has been horrible. The plan to build a 100,000 sq' commercial building on 4 residential lots is devasting to our neighborhood and the area. We are at the intersection of Vander Bilt Beach Dr and Collier Blvd...MCA has 1500 students and no buses, the influx of 1,000 cars twice a day is hard to imagine. The plan to relocate the school from South Horseshoe Dr includes a sports stadium and practice field and a big giant parking lot, next to a live gun range! From the septic/sewer and well concerns to run off and stadium lights...my neighbors and the surrounding area are united against this as you can imagine.
The story is bad enough until you add in the secretive and underhanded nature that Mason Classical Academy has chosen to deal with us.
Mason Classical Academy or their representatives have called the police on us 5 times! twice to report us for shooting on our private property on our legal gun ranges. Kelly Lichter called the County sheriff and accused my neighbor of making death threats on her MCA or its representatives again tried to shut us down two more times at our rallies by using the force of the police to silence us.

The plan they have to "rezone" the residential lots on our street was hatched in backrooms and executed in sneaky ways...forcing non-disclosure agreements on the property owners involved and threatened them with lawsuits and financial ruin if they told others what was going on. All this from a Public School? They deceived some of the landowners with undervalued verbal appraisals and "hustled" some unsophisticated folks, crafting a contingent deal for land that would cost $20 million+ for a fraction of the market price.
One of our neighbors is facing homelessness, her sister and nephew passed away earlier this year and MCA moved in and is trying to buy the land out from under her and demolish her home and leave her homeless.
Because this is a public school, the County Commissioners have no say in this. So, we are left feeling more and more like we are on our own and through all of this, Kelly Lichter, David Bolduc and Natalie Epperson, MCA's Board members, continue to treat our neighbors like we don't matter.
7th Ave NW will not go quietly into the night...join us to stop this assault and to send a message to the developers and greedy RE folks. It stops now!

Join us at today's protest and picket line at our Peaceful Demonstration at Mason Classical Academy to Save 7th Ave NW! MCA wants to bulldoze 4 homes on our Street and clear cut 17 acres.
Today, we found out that MCA will be forcing Michael Dolny's aunt to leave the home at 4481 7th Ave NW that she lived in and cared for Michael for so many years, up to the time of his death. MCA is trying to buy the home, force her out and demolish it.
We will meet between 1pm and 1:30 in the parking lot directly across from the entrance to MCA at 3073 South Horseshoe Drive. We have signs, or you can make your own. Bull Horns are allowed. No blocking the street. Our protest goes till 3:30pm

so hey everyone...the response to Save 7th Ave NW and End Rezoning Music Festival, our Protest Rally on Sunday, January 7th, has been awesome. More than 20 local musicians have volunteered to play at the Protest Rally, we have a new set of spiffy colored protest signs, new flyers with upcoming meeting dates and contact info, We have a full crew of volunteers to set up the stage, run sound and lights, thanks to JamFest and Kyler Chow and Tyler Van Saun for jumping in to help!
We need people to picket, and we will have a table and booth next to the stage where we can talk to folks and recruit them to come to the January commissioners meeting, and our next MCA protest and to send emails. So, I need some more volunteers.

1500 students, no buses, Sports stadium, 100,000 square foot commercial structure, 130 staff members, giant asphalt parking lot.

Collier County needs schools near Corkscrew and Palmetto Ridge, not on 7th Ave NW, we have 6 within a 5-minute drive of 7th Ave NW.
We have wells and septic systems here...1500 kids flushing all day long. 1,000 cars in the morning and 1,000 cars in the afternoon dumping on to Vanderbilt Beach Dr.
Did I mention Mason Classical Academy wants to put all of this next to live, legal gun range?
Can anyone come up with a good reason to ignore all of this and still bulldoze this neighborhood?

Santa Wolf talked to a lot of MCA parents about what has been going on with the plan to rezone or residential lots and to place a school next to a legal firing range.
