Here’s another write up on the Moat Mountain 24 Hours of Great Glen from last weekend.

Major themes are: awesome volunteer support, 24 hour races are for everyone, believe in yourself, and sign up for next year ASAP.

I suggest getting your phone to read this to you as it’s over 30 min! Enjoy and nice job Solo #9!!!

24-hour mountain bike races are few and far between and are some of the most special events out there. They aren’t well known so if you’re hearing about it for the first time here, you’re in the vast majority. 24 hour races involve a full weekend of being a tight-knit community living together...

Meet the Team/Racer:

“As family we have been coming here since 2010. We used to own a bike shop in our town—Harborside Cycle—in Gloucester, Mass. 2024 is my second time racing the 24 hour. My first year was 2015 with Heidi (my mom and 2024 24HOGG volunteer) as a 2-person. 2024 is my first year racing as a SINGLE SOLO rider under 40.”

PSA: Bikers looking to ride the course between 7/17 and 7/23 should be warned that we are doing major trail work from Intersection 5 all the way up the "Sluice" to the Glen House Hotel. So that two-way traffic section of the trail is currently closed.

You can still come into the shop, grab a trail pass for $15, and ride 98% of the course, you'll just have to shuffle your car around.

Call for mountain bike racers AND volunteers for Moat Mountain’s 24 Hours of Great Glen! Don’t miss out on being part of this fun community & event. Volunteer needs are Saturday afternoon (8/3) through 3pm Sunday (8/4).

Duties include:
⏰ Timing
🚲 Coursework & Maintenance during event
♻️ Course Clean-up (Sunday)

Volunteer blocks are 4-hour shifts. Perks are two Great Glen trail passes (good for summer or winter, $26/each value), camaraderie, a commemorative t-shirt, & superhero status.

We're gonna take a minute to call out a few returning and new sponsors.

Let's hear it one more time for New England Youth Cycling for coming in big with multiple youth and coaches teams this year!! These kids are fit and trim and will bring the A GAME for sure.

The Tick-Tock Croc 🐊 is counting down T-minus 1.5 days until the cannon kicks off this year’s Moat Mountain 24 Hours of Great Glen. A huge thank you to our hard working Race Crew who are buzzing around as busy bees to make sure the magic happens!

Weather looks MINT for the race. Come Friday and party down w Slack Tide and the MOAT!! Marking the roads for travel in the campgrounds. Be prepared to have an awesome weekend!!!!

Attention dirty riders! The bridge is in and the showers are gone. We’ll at least the outside showers. So hit the river for a rinse, try your luck on the floating bridge or bring some quarters for the indoor showers during hours that the GGT lodge will be open. See ya soon.

You can’t have Oz without vOz! This guy has been working for 100 days to get the course ready. Steve “Voz” lives in Jackson and works here part time for fun. He’s raced in all the 24 hour races we have hosted. The guy is a crusher. Be sure to say thanks when u show up this weekend.
