Cecilia Music Center has been to promote the appreciation, study, and performance of music in order to enrich the human spirit and enhance the quality of life for the residents of West Michigan. Cecilia Music Center (SCMC) has kept music alive in West Michigan. Whether is it reaching a young child how to hold an instrument for the first time or presenting world-renowned artists in Royce Auditorium

, SCMC is committed to providing life-changing musical experiences for everyone in our community. At the heart of SCMC is its historic facility. Built in 1894, the Music Center is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Now in its 135rd year of operation, SCMC is the longest running arts organization in the region. Called the “Mother of the Arts in West Michigan,” SCMC was the starting place for many other regional arts organizations, such as the Grand Rapids Symphony, Opera Grand Rapids, Grand Rapids Ballet, and Grand Rapids Civic Theatre. Today more than 50,000 pass through the Music Center each season for our School of Music, Presenting Concert Series, special events, and cultural events hosted by community and performing arts organizations.

St. Cecilia Music Center's In-School and In-Concert Student Experience takes jazz into schools!

Last week a jazz combo visited Brookside, Dickinson, and Ridgemoor Elementary Schools. Led by "Doc" James Sawyer on trumpet the group also features Robin Connell on piano, Jordan Richards on bass, John Gist on saxophone and Joe Miller on drums. They taught the students about jazz music and their instruments.

Many thanks to these fabulous musicians for sharing the joy of jazz with the kids and to the schools and students for their enthusiastic welcome!

On March 20, 2025, the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center will perform the beloved Schubert's Trout Quintet which the interesting addition of the double bass in the ensemble. Anthony Manzo is a member of CMS and will be the double bass player that evening. Manzo performs on a bass made around 1890 by Jérôme Thibouville-Lamy in Paris.
