I think it’s important to show up 10 to 15 minutes early to an engagement session and 30 minutes early for my start time for weddings. I feel late if I show up at the agreed time.
I also tend to stay a little later than my end time. If the DJ hasn’t tossed the garter I am happy to wait 15 minutes to capture this before I pack up for the night.

Make sure your photos are all backed up before it’s too late.
I’ve heard some horror stories from people walking into a pool with their phones to computers never turning back on. As a result, they lost all their wedding photos because they didn’t have them backed up!
This is why I personally put things onto 2 hard drives with my raws, Lightroom catalogs, and jpegs. I also at least have the jpegs online for a few years just in case a couple didn’t back them up right away.
Just know not every photographer promises backing up photos after a year.

The Shores of Turtle Creek is one of my favorite wedding venue locations in McHenry county Illinois to photograph.
I’ll start off by saying Anna and her staff are so organized and punctual. Anna educates everyone the best she can before each wedding. This really does make for a more stress fee wedding day for everyone. This is a huge reason when I photograph weddings here I never have to worry about missing a photo. I could say a million more amazing things about Anna and her team but I’m going to keep this part short.
Now onto the venue itself. Most brides get ready in the lower level when they are doing everything in one location. This makes it convenient because you do not have to factor in travel time between locations.
The venue it self has 3 amazing ceremony locations to choose from. Rain or shine you are covered. In this video we see the outside location that has a dramatic long walk down the aisle. Guests are always blown away by the beauty.
You might be thinking “what about people who can’t walk well?” Anna can give them a ride to the ceremony and back. She does so much behind the scenes to make each wedding so special and rememberable.
When taking photos of the bridal party and couple we always run out of time before we run out of ideas here. Everywhere you turn it is a breath taking backdrop for photos. The best time for photos is right before sunset.
When the sun sets that’s when the real magic happens. When looking into venues it’s important to know that up lighting makes a huge difference not only in photos for the reception but the overall vibe of the night. The lighting here is always spectacular.
These are just a few things why I highly recommend The Shores of Turtle Creek.
