Nobody said it would be easy.

This will be a very conflicting and open post. So, bear with us…

It has been apparent to us for some time that our business needs to continually make changes in order to not only survive, but succeed. Some of the most impactful challenges for us specifically over the last few years have been staffing limitations, the pandemic, the environment, cost, quality and availability of the products we use every day, as well as location.

All of these changes can be hard and oftentimes scary due to the uncertainty that goes along with them. It affects everyone and their livelihoods differently, but like many others, we are not immune to the outcomes associated with the changing times.

Changes are inevitable, but when a small business is affected by unforeseen circumstances like loss, staffing changes, vital equipment failures, a pandemic, rising product costs, quality and availability issues, as well as higher taxes, gas prices, and insurance, the ability to succeed running the business as it always has been run is not longer viable.

We continue to fight hard to make necessary changes in all of these areas, working longer hours, weekends and holidays, spent time away from our family and relied on the strength and understanding of those who have stuck with us to find new revenue to keep it going here at 1263 Shawano Ave, but it's time to accept that rather than just treading water, we need to move forward in a direction that will allow us to carry on Green Bay Floral’s legacy.

What we currently have is a charming reminder of how things were done in “the old days” resulting in a residential property being retrofitted again and again into a commercial business. With two houses and a makeshift retail space without the amenities of our competitors and a limited ability to update. Connected to overworked greenhouses and systems that have continually tested our resolve.

Because of this and evolving retail Garden Centers around or near us, our Greenhouse business isn’t what it used to be. We can, and do, produce some excellent products. But we can no longer bet on that business long term as that industry changes and as heating and maintaining 18,000 sq./ft. of “plastic house” on almost two acres of property in the middle of residential Green Bay is not in our best interest long term. We have poured all of our resources into preserving this venture, and it has come at a cost.

So, what’s our decision? To continue moving forward…

Our plan is to streamline Green Bay Floral into the next chapter without the cost and burden of a greenhouse and so much unused space, with a fresh start at a new location that will allow us to focus on the same brand of unique, quality products and services we turn out, along with the personality we have become known for.

We are putting 1263 Shawano Ave and the adjoining property for sale in hopes that someone can invest in this space, neighborhood and community we so love being a part of for the long haul.

In the meantime, we will be searching for an alternate location and, as always, continuing to be your favorite family owned, local flower shop delivering the sentiments of life through stunning arrangements, lush tropical plants and unique products like Annie Sloan Chalk Paint at a fair price in support of our small family of valued employees, as well as our various charitable contributions throughout or community for another couple of generations here in our great city of Green Bay.

Thank you to all of you who have rooted for, followed along with and been valued customers of Green Bay Floral over the last 5 years. We really can’t express how deep our gratitude is for your continued trust in letting us be a part of your weddings, birthdays, new babies, farewells and all of the other special moments in your lives.
