This is our new DIY project. I used old drip tubing zip tied to the arbor and hooked up to a garden hose.
UPDATE on PICK YOUR OWN FLOWERS
Because hurricane Zeta is going to bring us rain all day tomorrow and Friday we are not going to have pick your own at the garden. Instead we will have an open house at the studio. We picked as many flowers as we could before the rain. You can come to the studio and pick from our selection and pay per stem or purchase a premade bouquet. This will be our last week of flowers. It will also be my last week to see you as I will be retiring myself and maybe the business after this year. So come get some flowers and say goodbye for now.
Address is 11654 Stull Rd Greencastle
Hours: Thursday 12-6
Friday 8-12
Not my typical post but this little guy thought he needed to munch on broom corn while we where designing three weddings today. Maybe we should name him. Any ideas?
As we work on weddings today at the shop I wanted to take a video so I can remember how sweet, yet weird 2020 has been. This is part of my faithful crew. They are the best!!!
The Black eyed Susans are really showing off this week. We are designating this week Black-eyed Susan week.
The black-eyed Susan is a daisy-like wildflower with yellow petals and a dark brown center that grows in dry places. A member of the sunflower family and native to the United States east of the Rocky Mountains, .
Black-eyed Susan plants reach 2 to 3 feet in height, blooming between May and August. The flower heads measure 2 to 3 inches in diameter. The scientific name for the black-eyed Susan is Rudbeckia hirta; "hirta" is Latin for "rough hairy" (as the prominent center of the flower is).
The root of the black-eyed Susan is used in traditional and folk remedies to treat colds.
Did you know that the Black-eyed Susan is Marylands state flower. Maryland designated black-eyed Susan as the official state floral emblem in 1918.Its story is interesting. Early in 1918, a disagreement broke out among several state senators over the state flower. Senator Bomberger initiated the argument by introducing a bill to make the Black-eyed Susan the official symbol. He pointed out that the black and yellow flower matched the colors of the Calvert family crest, which were also colors on the state flag. His supporters referenced a popular song that connected the flower to Maryland, and reminded senators of its popularity among Maryland residents.
My pretty black-eyed Susan,
The fairest flower that grows;
You’re sweeter than sweet violets,
The lily or the rose.
My heart to you is ever true,
To do as you command.
My pretty black-eyed Susan,
The flow’r of Maryland.
It also symbolizes encouragement and motivation.
In honor of Maryland's State Flower, that is blooming profusely at Hope Valley Gardens, we are offering a 10% discount to all Maryland residents when picking flowers this week.
