The Weir-Jordan House (c. 1846) has a rich history in the city of Greensboro. This antebellum home is on the National Register of Historic Places and is one of only ten surviving structures built before 1880 in Greensboro. The original owner, Dr. David Weir, was President of the Edgeworth Female Academy (now Greensboro College) and founded the first insurance company in the city of Greensboro. Jor

dan, a businessman in to***co who served as a Guilford County sheriff, a Greensboro commissioner, and Chamber of Commerce director. The house was purchased by the Greensboro Woman’s Club in 1921 with the purpose of using the home as a clubhouse. More recently, the GWC saw an opportunity to serve the community by making the house available to the public for various functions. In 2008, the Weir-Jordan House became the home of Savory St. at the Weir-Jordan House today. With our casual elegance and Southern sense of style, we will provide an experience to be remembered by you & your guests.

We were delighted to host Children’s Adoption Services at the Weir-Jordan House for their Hope for Homes event. Guests enjoyed activities on the front lawn and perusing auction items both inside and out. We love partnering with 1618 On Location to make events memorable for our clients.

The Weir-Jordan House was the perfect setting for a recent Fox8 interview focused on the work of the Greensboro Woman’s Club and its 115 year impact on the community. After all, this historic house has been owned continuously by GWC since 1921. It is a small business which has been owned and operated exclusively by women since then and currently serves as an event venue open to the public. Why not support a local women-owned business when planning your next event?

Did you know shopping small businesses not only builds your local community but the economy as well! Small businesses reinvest!
According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, when you spend $100 at a small business, $48 stays in the community, compared to only $14 when shopping big box stores.
Why? Because local businesses rely on other local businesses. As they say, rising tides lift all boats 🤍

We’re so excited to be hosting an opportunity for you to shop and support some amazing small businesses here in our community. And did you know every time you book at Weir-Jordan House you are also supporting Historical Preservation and a Woman Owned Service Based Non-Profit?

We can’t wait to see you there on Saturday, May 18th from 10am - 1pm!

Members of Greensboro Woman’s Club welcomed Benjamin Briggs, Executive Director of Preservation Greensboro to the Weir-Jordan House to share how research was done to determine the architect of the Weir-Jordan House.

Originally thought to be designed by Alexander Jackson Davis and built c. 1847, the internet and other means of research today has shed new light on the origins of this historic Greensboro home. Records from sources such as Newspapers.com give the ability to cross-reference and point to William S. Andrews as the likely architect, with the house built c. 1856.

During his presentation, Mr. Briggs recognized the past and current work done by Greensboro Woman’s Club members to maintain the house since purchasing it over 100 years ago at an auction. Presentations have been given in both Raleigh and Philadelphia about the story of the Weir-Jordan House, as other large cities in NC do not have a house of this accomplishment. The high style of its design is unusual for a house of its age.

We will continue to keep the legacy of the Weir-Jordan House preserved for the future and look forward to sharing it with you!
