Planning an Event? Let's take a look at Tent Styles and Types.
As mentioned in my last Blog, there is a lot of confusion about what a Tent is and is not. I have seen several companies advertise themselves as a "Premier" tent rental company. However when you look at their offering they are really offering Canopies and Pop Up covering. These are not commercial tents and most likely will not stand up to much wind or rain due to the lightweight frame. The Vinyl is most likely not fire rated. As a result they are renting an unsafe product. At Ellis we only rent commercial grade tents that have Fire Rated Vinyl/Fabric, has a wind rating and a sever weather Plan.
So, What is a Commercial Grade Tent? There are several Types. Today I will talk about the Pole Tent. There are a few different styles of pole tents. What a lot of people call pole tent then there are High Peak Tension Pole Tents. They both use tension to keep them in place but the High Peak Tension Pole tent features a more elegant look with its sweeping tent swoop line from pole to pole. There is also a sailcloth pole tent. These are at the high end of the pole tents and the vinyl fabric is generally lighter weight, and light from under the tent will make the fabric glow from the inside out. Also the ends are round vs square as you would see n a tradition Pole tent. All these pole tent are staked and will have a stake line. Usually they are not Ballast and is not best practice to ballast this style of tent and can be dangerous to do so compared to a Frame or Structure tent. One last think as the name suggest these tents will have a pole/s in the cent of the tent and if a single pole it will have one or multiple poles running down the middle of the tent. If a Double Poled it will have 2 lines of poles.

Planning an Event and need a Tent? What are some important things to consider? As I do market research I see other event companies market themselves as "Premier" Event Rental Company. What does that really mean though? When it comes to Tents, the term "tents" really gets confusing. Lets start by looking at the styles: 1.) Canopies - these are lightweight frame and vinyl shade covering. Usually not very stylish and certainly will not stand up to much weather. 2.) Pop ups - Well most of us know what these are. They are usually lightweight and inexpensive. 3.) Commercial Tents - There are several categories a.) High Peak Pole b.)Traditional Pole c.)Frame d.) Hybrid Frame e.) Structure. Within each of the commercial tent categories there are sub categories as well. Example, High Peak Pole (Or Tension Tents) can be traditional White Vinyl or a premium fabric like Sailcloth. Sailcloth is a beautiful fabric and glows at night from the lighting under it. Next Blog I will dive a little deeper into the commercial tent styles and will show some pictures. What is important is when you contract your tent please be sure to pick a reputable company that is offering commercial tents and that they are insured. They maintain their product and have several options and can guide you through your event planning stage. We are in the process of hiring Tent Installers for the upcoming season. This position has the opportunity to be full time for the right candidate.

Job Duties Include but not limited to:

• Set up and takedown of tents, stages, dance
floors and lighting
• Delivery of equipment; tents, stages, floors,
lighting, tables, chairs, etc.
• Loading and unloading of trucks
• Cleaning, maintaining, and repairing equipment
• On-site interaction with clients
• Uphold company safety standards and ensure
appropriate safety procedures are followed
• Other duties as requested

Working Conditions :

• Must be able to stand and be physically
active for hours at a time
• Outdoors in all weather conditions
• Some Night / Weekend work required

Education, Skill & Requirements:

• A high school diploma /GED is preferred but
not required.
• Must be able to lift and carry 50+ lbs. over
significant distances.
• Strong attention to detail
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving
record preferred
• Rental industry experience preferred
