It’s Black History Month! This year, La’Junius Catering decided to honor a pioneer from the education field! This year, La’Junius Catering, LLC salutes Dr. Amanda Elzy!

Dr. Amanda Elzy was the First Assistant Superintendent of the Leflore County School District. Dr. Elzy attended and graduated from Rust College. In 1938, Dr. Elzy relocated from Columbus, MS to Greenwood, MS to begin her teaching career. Due to Dr. Elzy’s outstanding representation in education, the Mississippi Board of Education decided to name a new high school in Greenwood, MS after her. After teaching and working for the Leflore County Schools for 41 years, Dr. Elzy retired in 1979.

Other accolades of Dr. Elzy include:
*Being named Outstanding Educator in America in 1970
*Becoming one of the 18 charter members of the Theta Pi Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated.
*School board member of the Greenwood City Schools from 1980-1989
*Started the Amicae Chapter of Itta Bena, Ms, and the Amicae Chapter of Columbus, MS
