Attention former GAF Queens: we would like to put a window display together showing some of the crowns/tiaras our queens wore throughout their reigns. Crowns will be kept inside a building (we are currently looking for the appropriate window). We would like to collect the tiaras the week of the festival and give them back to you the following week. If we could display your tiara could you please contact Trena Martin, Raegan Stauffer or Ashley Miller so we can make plans to meet with you.

Please share this post so we can get the word out.

The Apple Festival would like to give a huge thank you to the the Boy Scout Troop 17 and their fathers for the new stage flooring. These generous and hard working people worked in the sweltering heat to remove the old and replace the flooring. They have done an excellent job and we appreciate them so much. If you see any of these men out and about town please tell them thank you for all of their hard work. The festival can not thank them enough. Great job guys!!

Also, a huge thank you to our main man, Jim Eatock for assisting the scouts by raising the steel bracings so the flooring could be replaced underneath them. Thank you Jim.

Our reigning queen, Jillian adds her experiences.

After my older sister won the title in 2015, it is something I had dreamed of doing too. After my two years of competing, I have gained so much confidence, speaking skills, and best of all so many new friendships. I have also earned multiple scholarships. Overall, it is such an amazing experience! Even if it’s out of your comfort zone, you’ll have new sisters to help you along the way. Competing in the Griggsville Apple Festival pageant is so much fun, and you’ll gain many skills!

There is an information meeting this Sunday, July 7th at 4:30 in the Griggsville Park. Our pageant is open to any young lady in the GP school district that is either in high school or is homeschooled at a high school age. Please come see what we are about.

Jennifer Bingham explains her thoughts on how the Apple Festival helped her.

My time as an Apple Festival Queen is one I often look back on fondly. I highly encourage anyone who's even a little bit interested in running, to go for it! I know from experience that you gain so much more than a pretty crown (though that is a nice bonus). You gain interview skills, learn how to interact with others in a professional way, and get to experience what it's like to be a role model to others and represent our town positively. Even if you don't walk away with the crown, you still get to know a group of amazing girls, and of course, Trena, the one who works so hard to make all this possible. Being a part of the Apple Festival pageant is an experience I wouldn't trade for the world, and I look forward to seeing its positive impact on others continue.

Our most recent addition to the Apple Festival Queen Alumni Group, Mariska Sheurman, tells us what she gained by competing.

Growing up, I had always wanted to be a part of the “big girl” pageants. I grew up watching all the girls compete on the Apple Festival stage, hoping one day I could do the same. When I did compete for this pageant, I wanted to build poise, confidence, and speaking skills. Miss Trena helped me break open my shell, and help me find a side of myself I didn’t know was possible.
I highly recommend joining this pageant if you want to learn valuable life skills, and have an amazing support network. Miss Trena and her crew not only helped me to prepare for the pageant and during the competition, but also throughout my time as queen.

Reagan Stauffer’s encouragement to join the pageant:

My Apple festival queen response….

I was on the fence about competing since I had experienced several losses already. However, with it being my senior year I knew I would regret not competing. Little did I know I would be crowned 30 years almost to the day from when my mom was crowned, and I would get to reign for 2 years…thank you COVID.

From competing, I have gained experiences I never thought possible such as helping with the pageant, emceeing the pageant, a mentor and friend from Trena, and an overall understanding of what truly goes into the festival each year.

Lanie Daniels shares with us her reasons for entering the Apple Festival pageant which led her to becoming one of our queens.

I chose to compete in the Miss Griggsville Apple Festival pageant as I had watched the pageants in previous years, and had dreamed of being up there myself one day. Being in the pageant for two years definitely helped me with my confidence in public speaking, as well as in interviews. This has helped me as an adult when interviewing for jobs. I learned life skills that continue to have an impact on me to this day. I highly suggest joining this pageant, which, in my opinion, has the best pageant director around! Trena was there to help throughout the practices and the pageant itself, plus she was the best help throughout my rein.

We have asked several former Apple Festival Queen Pageant contestants why they competed and what they gained by competing.

The first young lady to respond is Sydnee Brown.

I competed because I lacked confidence speaking in front of large crowds and I wanted to put myself out of my comfort zone. After competing I felt more confident in speaking in front of people, and I also got the privilege of forming relationships with all of the girls. A benefit of competing is that you will gain self confidence and self discipline while also having so much fun!

The information meeting for this year’s pageant is this Sunday at 4:30 in the Griggsville Park. If you are a Griggsville-Perry resident and freshman through senior aged please join us.
