There is no one-size-fits-all approach to stress and feelings of anxiousness. I tell clients you don't have to "find a thing" you can MAKE YOUR OWN WAY. Try a little of this and al little of that. You're on the right path as long as you're trying.

Therapy isn't just trauma and crisis...sometimes it's positive regard, brainstorming, and the best way to practice self-care.

Did you know that mindfulness is proven to help with anxiety and depression? There are simple ways to help practice mindfulness and grounding. Below are some great examples. One of my favorites is to stand outside, put my bare feet in the grass, and do breathing exercises. It only takes about two minutes of my day, but when I feel like my mind is racing or I am over-stimulated, it helps to ground me.

We are all unique and so are the issues we face, but we can reframe our negative self-talk. Again, these are not attributes you have to possess, these are things that can be learned.

The best way to avoid burnout is by setting good boundaries. I heard a saying this week that "I am enough starts with saying *enough!*".

You don't have to do all the things. You don't have to earn rest. You don't have to prove your worth by sacrificing of yourself constantly. Set good boundaries. Stick to them. Saying "no" to someone else means saying "yes" to your own mental and physical health.

These aren't just tools you are expected to possess; these skills can be learned. If you are experiencing burnout (parental burnout, work burnout, caregiver burnout, etc.), we can help. You never have to go through these struggles alone.

One of my favorite experiences was working at a public charter school during undergrad. I had forgotten how amazing today's young people are...and how badly it sucked to be a teenager. Yeah, I said it. Sucked.

We think that life is easy simply because they're young, and that is so far from accurate. Their stresses and anxieties are as bad as ours...just different.

Your kiddo may need to talk to someone even if you did everything right. Read that again.

Let's normalize taking our kids and teens to therapy where they are allowed to be authentically themselves and supported through their struggles.

Technology has advanced us in so many beautiful ways...but it also harms us. We numb by zombie-scrolling through TikTok, we stay conflict-oriented due to social media posts and propaganda at every turn. We now use the word "talk" when we really text, and it has harmed our ability to understand nuance and body language.

One of the best pieces of advice I received was from a counselor who challenged my husband and me to put our phones down for no less than one hour a night and "unplug." No electronics. It is still one of my favorite things to share with couples and parents who struggle with being present or connection.

Set the phone down. Grab a deck of cards. Go for a walk. Talk...actually SPEAK to one another. Fold laundry together. I don't care what you choose...just actively engage with your person/people. Be present. Connect.

Today is Parent Appreciation Day. This one is for my moms.

Have you ever heard of parent burnout? It is when we are physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausted from the prolonged stresses of parenting.

Loving your children doesn't mean what you're doing is easy. The relentless demand on you and the pressure you face, often without sufficient support, can bring on feeling overwhelmed, detached, and depressed.

You're not a bad mom. What you're doing is amazing...and so, so difficult. You do not have to continue to struggle without anyone to support you. What you're going through is real.

If you think you would benefit from talking to someone, I'd love to share some time with you. If I'm not the person for you, there are so many amazing therapists in our area and I'd be honored to help refer you.

It's Monday! That means a new week and no doubt, there will be stressors (even on the good days).

No, I do not think that a mere nap and a walk outside will help every single time. However, I also won't ever say these tips *never* work. Sometimes, we need connection, to breathe fresh air, to take a break from our surroundings, or to put our feelings on paper.

Intention. Mindfulness. Connection. Setting clear intentions helps direct your energy positively. Mindfulness keeps you present, reducing stress and anxiety. Building strong connections provides support and fosters a sense of belonging.

Relationships are hard. Period. Couples therapy isn't just for those on the brink of breakup. Sometimes, our communication styles, conflict resolution skills, parenting challenges, and disconnect are getting in the way of us being the best partner we can be.

Check in with you...then check in with your partner. If you don't like what you come up with, reach out. If your air conditioner wasn't running well or if your roof had a leak...you'd call someone to help.

Let's normalize doing that for the most important part of your home...your marriage.
