16 years ago I started with organic vegetable and heirloom apple tree farming. I was introduced to wreath making when we re-located the farm to Branford Ct. I have always wanted to flower farm but was never given the chance. We were growing perennials for sale in 2 gallon pots and I would harvest all the flowers and arrange them for myself and even tried a few bouquets at the New Rochelle farmers market. They always sold out and my desire to grow them only grew.
In 2010 my husband and I started having children and I had to take a step back from farming. I re-introduced myself in 2014 by holding wreath/centerpiece classes and selling custom made wreaths. That was satisfying my creative yearning enough until the early spring of 2017. I bought a few seed packets, read a couple of books and bought a cultivator. I was hooked. I have grown the backyard flower farm to a little over a 1/2 acre in 3 short seasons. I have had some obstacles with being chemical free, having a baby and now farming with Lyme disease and an almost toddler! Yet with all of these obstacles I have successfully cultivated over a 1/2 acre myself, prepped all the beds and planted the seeds and plugs.
Growing flowers is so much more than what meets the eye. There is care for our mother, creating a positive habitat, nurturing ourselves and our plants, being mindful to our beneficial s and even the “bad bugs”. It is also being on the giving end. I am honored each time I haven an order. I am delivering love, condolences, sweet sentiments and personal happiness. I can honestly say that I love my job
