And now, a message from your pastor:
On Sunday, October 6, we will celebrate in worship and fellowship a bit of our yesterday heritage. For the morning worship service we will offer a Rite I Communion service. Many of us (I included) were first introduced to the Episcopal Church using the 1928 Book of Common Prayer. Common in this case did not mean ordinary or second rate by any means. Rather, our prayers and worship guided us on a singular path of togetherness that we held in common.
The BCP introduction in 1549 by Thomas Cranmer was England’s gift to Christianity by offering a service book that could be read and understood by all present. Prior to this time catholic worship was performed by the priest alone, in Latin, which few understood, and somewhat in isolation from the people who at the time were engaged in “private devotions,” not same (common) worship.
What perhaps sets the older liturgy apart is the use of Elizabethan language. The most frequently remiss of the old worship is loss of the beauty of the language. But on October 6 we will all hear a multitude of “thee” and “thou.” I will offer commentary during the sermon time. I hope to see many of you as we offer praise and prayers to the Living God who hears in all languages.
October Luncheon
Following worship on October 6 we have asked that you bring a dish your grandmother might have prepared for a Sunday dinner. Keeping with our theme of Old Fashion Sunday there are many opportunities present before each of us. So let’s have fun and enjoy the day completely. Remember, at 4 that afternoon we will bless the animals in the courtyard. God Bless,
Fr. Mike
