As a hub for all that is q***r, trans, and outdoorsy, The Venture Out Project takes each of their partners into careful consideration - striving to work with companies both big and small that value personhood AND planet in their production. Working with the LGBTQ+ community is not a DEI box that can be checked each year - it's a daily commitment to value diversity in the outdoors, and TVOP is proud to partner with people who care.

Thank you to our friends at SpruceTone Films - courtesy of TVOP partner Stanley - for capturing the magic of Basecamp at Beaver Falls on camera.

The Venture Out Project team is busy wrapping up the 2022 trip season in the gear cabin, putting the backpacks to bed and prepping those snowshoes for winter use - shoutout to Instructor and Inventory Wizard James for keeping the space in tip-top tidy shape all year long!

The warm summer months are coming to a close here at Basecamp - as the flowers drop their seeds and the winter-dwelling birds button up for the cold season, we're fortunate to still be surrounded by so much beauty.

For that beauty, we have our gardener and helping-hand Jenny to thank. Jenny came to us in Spring 2022 to assist with a few horticulture projects around the property - little did we know, she'd bring with her knowledge of land relations and stewardship that the community here deeply needed.

The next time you're at Basecamp and find yourself gazing in awe at the vibrant hues of native and medicinal plant species (planted artfully to reflect the colors of the Pride Flag), send a blessing Jenny's way. She's worked some magic on these 40-acres.

What better place to host a Q***r Green Woodworking class than in nature's workshop right next door?

The Venture Out Project's frontcountry events are off to a roaring start. The land is not ours, but the ways in which we connect, collaborate, and heal collectively on it sure are. Thank you to all those who joined us - we hope you get to use your new spoons on some delicious soup this fall! 🍂

Image ID: In the first image, 10 people gather in the forest under canopy tarps, smiling and holding their wood spoon creations. In the second image, instructor Chris demonstrates previous spoon projects to the class. In the third image, four participants in fall clothing work outside, sitting on benches. In the fifth image, two people sit on their benches, showing each other their spoon-in-progress and smiling. In the sixth image, two different people sit on their bunches examining the raw wood they will soon carve into spoons. Lots of Carhartt's everywhere

We never expected our patio's swinging chairs to be a fan-favorite with both our youth AND adult visitors. But hey, can you blame them? Tapping into the joy of our inner-child is a 24/7 commitment that we're happy to support.

Our guests never fail to 'wow' us with their talent and authenticity. If we could bundle up our gratitude, we would send it to each and every person who has ever graced us with their presence at Basecamp. It's truly such a delight to host you (and all your wide, innumerable skills).

Restoring connection to land is at the root of all we do here at Basecamp - which is why we're proud to celebrate the most recent graduates of the 2022 Forest Therapy Guide Training Immersion Program, via the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy, run by our friend, Tam Wiley of .

It was an honor to host ANFT's Guide Training Program here at Basecamp - as an international association with over 1000 guides worldwide, we're excited to see ANFT get a little bigger!

Belonging is as important a need to humankind as breathing, eating, or resting - so why does it go so underserved?

To non-LGBTQ+ people, q***r and trans bodies have historically been one of showiness, performance, and diverging from the 'norm' of our heterosexual-dominant society. Being LGBTQ+ meant standing out in our oneness.

Many LGBTQ+ people everywhere see this as fact. Camp Culture (and not in the way we typically mean it!) can serve as a method of finding one another, like birdsong across open fields. It's a marker of identity that says, "When you see me, know I am like you."

For equally many other LGBTQ+ people, the loud and proud (and out) life may not feel so welcoming. The rainbow insignias during Pride Month could feel overbearing; the pressure to flaunt your living q***r and trans body might fall outside cultural norms. Still, you crave community.

Within our wide, generous umbrella of q***rness, it can be challenging to find the belonging that's so critical to our mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing. Western society teaches us that differences are something to fear, rather than what they truly are - an opportunity to see, fully, all the different ways there are to live a life.

May you live many lives within the one you have been given. And may some of that long life be spent with us, with nature, at Basecamp.

Even at night, you'll never feel lost.

Vermont is a beautiful location for stargazing. Bundle up and join us in the meadows this fall for some of the most spectacular evening views (and maybe a bat or two!) 🦇🌝
