Sometimes you just know they’re the one, your everything, and you live your life without legally recognizing your commitment to each other. And then one day you wake up and say “hey, maybe we should make this official.” And as you’re lying there in bed, you google , and my name pops up. You pick a town, and a location, maybe a beautiful flower garden, a waterfall, or a special place you like to walk. You go to that town hall and get your license. And then you tell me the time and place to meet you. The ceremony only takes a few minutes, but it’s memorable and meaningful.

Congratulations and gratitude to all these beautiful couples who asked me to officiate this week! One drove all the way from New Jersey so they could be married THAT DAY. Another had a destination wedding planned and needed to be legally married first. The other two had been dating over 8 years since high school and going on their spouse’s insurance. Hey, and , if you , you get the license and I’ll meet you. Like these couples - Two are at New Haven City Hall (inside and in the courtyar), another at Pardee Rose Garden, and another at Hamden Town Center Park

You may need an appointment to get your marriage license. Call the Town or City Clerk for the town where you are getting married.

Effective July 22 2024, marriage licenses will be by Appointment only in the Town of Hamden.

We've made this change to reduce wait times accommodating both election-related activities and the needs of those seeking marriage licenses.
