So much more than an event. I don’t always get a chance to talk about the organizations we host at the Benison. But today I do. It has been the honor for the past three years to host the USA Cares annual fundraising banquet, raising awareness for mental health and veterans. The first year we hosted them we decided to make it tradition to purchase a new flag for this event to honor the veterans and their service. Last year as we were trying to replace the flag it got stuck halfway up and I couldn’t get it down. Not knowing where to turn I called my friend, Brandon, at the fire department. Within a few hours they had our old flag down and our new one flying strong. Unfortunately, that would be the last time I ever spoke to Brandon , two weeks later, he took his life. So today in honor of Brandon, the USA cares team, and our veterans. As the rain came down this morning I proudly hoisted our new flag to the sky. As you drive through Hamilton don’t forget to look up at that flag and remember that mental health matters.
