It pains us to make this announcement but, we will no longer be vending at the Hammond Farmers & Artisans Market as we weren’t able to comply with the new market regulations by the new year deadline.

This is of no fault but our own as we were given plenty of notice about the new regulations and deadline.

Although we have been vocal about our disapproval of the new regulations and the direction the market is heading, we have built relationships with the vendors and customers of the market that will live on past our time there.

The most common question we have received is, can’t we just reapply? The answer is yes. But, we would have to repay the application fee and be interviewed again. This is where our moral line is. We refuse to pay an application fee that we have already paid for to be a vendor at a market that we have been a vendor at for 3 years.

When said organization made decisions to put profit over community, it no longer fit into our moral standard of business operations.

The good news is, our business will continue to operate. We had become complacent at the market and seized to expand our business outside of it. We will use this opportunity to do just that.

This year our goal is to get retail shelving for our pasta products and to expand our market meals to a meal prepping service.

Finally, we want to thank you all. The customers who have appreciated and understood what we are trying to accomplish. The vendors that we have developed friendships with and that have helped to make our goal possible. And, lastly, the Hammond Market for giving us the doorway to start this dream.

We don’t even know what to say. Without the support of you all, our customers, our fellow vendors at the market, and the Hammond Farmers & Artisans Market, we could not have done that. Thank you all for your generosity and continued support in making this dream a reality.

Our Daily Bread wants to thank Samuel Crum from Rogue Gastronomy that donated 100% of his profits from the November farmer’s market to Our Daily Bread! Thank you for your generous heart to help your neighbors in need😃

WAY back before we were a business, we still understood the importance of being a part of the community.

When our current CCA (Chief of Custodial Arts) lived a better life, he was asked to give out awards to a local school and understood the importance of community outreach.

Today, we continue that belief.

Our Social Media Manager was so busy stirring up controversy that he forgot to post today’s market menu. He will be reprimanded and made to wash today’s dishes from the market. Because we believe in accountability.

So, here’s today’s market haul.

Eggplant, poblano peppers and bell peppers from FAUST FARMS

Turnips and mustard greens from Joe Fekete's Family Farm

Oregano from a wonderful customer and market regular.

This may very well be the most demeaning thing we’ve ever had to do for our business.

That being said, a “state regulated facility” does NOT mean cleaner! State health inspections are available to the public. Check their website for your favorite local restaurant. You may be surprised that “state regulated” restaurants can continue to operate with rat and roach infestations but, we have to delegitimize our product by advertising that’s it is not produced in such a place.

We stand behind the statement that we will put our food processing area against ANY “state regulated” kitchen in this city.

p.s. It helps when someone from the Health Dept. gives a restaurant a heads up about inspections. But, that never happens. Right?
