One of Steven’s closest friends Elisa shared these recent happy photos of him taken on a day trip to Richmond. I can hardly believe she was able to get him out in the world. Steven was a serious homebody

Steven was a very dear and precious friend, and I know I will never have another exactly like him. He was so many wonderful things in one skinny package. He was highly intelligent and curious, always learning, always listening, always reading, always thinking. He was gifted, artistic, stunningly creative, a designer and a sketch artist. He was loud and colorful and vibrant, but beneath that he was painfully shy, quiet, tender, and sweet. He saw me for who I was and appreciated all the colors he saw in me. When everyone else was saying, “why?” to my eccentricities, Steven said, “why not?” He always said his favorite flower was “whatever one is in my hand.” It was actually lilacs and his favorite color was green, although you’d have thought it was Blue Marlin for how he was always covered in it. He was forever getting in trouble for breaking glassware, using too much ribbon or the last of the spray paint, or “putting every flower in the shop” in one arrangement. His funeral work comforted families and covered thousands of loved ones with perfect floral tributes. In the end it’s ironic that we have no grave or monument to lay one flower in his memory. I guess he used them all up on us! Steven, we love you, and every petal weeps for you. 🥀💚
