On June 2, 1902, at the invitation of Reverend Doctor Gill, Mark Twain gave a sermon entitled “The Gospel of Good Cheer” at Fifth Street Baptist Church. On Sunday October 27, 2024, Fifth Street Baptist Church and First Presbyterian Church are privileged to present a reenactment of this speech.
The two congregations routinely host community events and worship together on fifth Sundays. This upcoming event will feature a variety of games and activities for all ages beginning at 4:00 pm, a free chili supper to begin serving at 4:30 pm and the presentation of “The Gospel of Good Cheer” by Mark Twain actor Richard Garey at 6:00 pm. All events will be held at Fifth Street Baptist located at 111 North 5th Street, Hannibal, MO. Everyone is welcome to attend.
