Sending out late summer vibes in pink and gold!

What is it about this design that is exuding late summer vibes? It could be the lush pink lisianthus grown in Worcester by Amy of Mama Tree Farm, Vermont, or perhaps the sweet zinnia, goldenrod, and copper fennel grown by Hilary and Dj of Morey Hill Farm in Craftsbury, or maybe it's the curvey snapdragons and spikes of milky oats, both grown in Wolcott by Sara of Sandiwood Farm, or - I know - it could definitely be the sweet golden-yellow polka dots of tansy grown by Michelle of Kingdom Dahlias in Sheffield.

Order a gorgeous design sending out late summer feels of your very own on our website at https://tinyurl.com/pinkandgoldmvase or give us a call at 802-472-3397!

Oooh! Orange!

It's a chilly late-summer day today here in Vermont's beautiful Northeast Kingdom, with warmer early-autumn weather on the horizon. This design is totally feeling the seasonal shift with layers of orange, peach, pink, and purple.

Local blooms include a stunning orange dahlia from Michelle at Kingdom Dahlias in Sheffield, VT; "hot biscuit" amaranth and purple foxglove from Hilary and Dj up in Craftsbury at Morey Hill Farm; and fragrant purple anise hyssop grown in Wolcott by Sara of Sandiwood Farm

Another great fundraiser for your autumn mums! If you're closer to Montpelier, support youth sports and get your mums through Black Bear Hockey!

The Black Bear U10 and U12 Tier 2 girls are collaborating with The Flower Basket in Hardwick for their upcoming hockey season by selling Claussen's Vermont-grown chrysanthemums!

With The Flower Baskets support, the girls are excited to offer 8" pots for $13 or 10” hanging baskets for $30, both well below retail cost! Mums are full and arrive with the color cracking through, so they last longer with you! You have a choice of bronze, red, purple, yellow, or white!

Get your pre-order in today by reaching out directly to one of the player's family or by sending an email to [email protected]. Please include your name, number of mums, size of mums, and color preference. Venmo payments will be required once your pre-order has been received by our fundraising team. Orders must be in by Friday, August 30th. Pickup will take place in the Central VT Civic Center parking lot on Thursday, September 13th, time TBD.

At Black Bear Hockey, we aim to have a lasting, positive impact on the development of our participants, not only as players but also as individuals and community members. Our mission is to ensure that every child has the opportunity to experience the benefits of youth hockey from building physical fitness to learning valuable life skills such as discipline, teamwork, and perseverance. As a local organization, we rely heavily on fundraising to help achieve our mission which keeps the costs affordable for our families.

This fundraiser directly supports the Black Bear U10 and U12 Tier 2 girls’ teams. They are excited for their upcoming hockey season in which they will play in several out-of-state tournaments. All funds help offset tournament fees.

Iso's Terrariums at The Flower Basket!

These incredible terrariums are designed and made by Iso of Glover, VT. Iso’s terrariums function best when kept covered; the spider plants stay smaller with the limited carbon dioxide in a covered environment, and the environment is basically self-contained, requiring indirect light - perfect for most indoor rooms - and only a light misting once every couple weeks or so. Iso blends the soil with charcoal to keep the container fresh, and your terrarium will settle into its own rhythm of moisture and evaporation once you’ve lived with it for a while.

As your terrarium settles in and the plants start growing, feel free to pinch back the leaves to keep your terrarium inhabitants at a comfortable size for the terrarium.

Order a terrarium made by Iso on our website: https://theflowerbasketvt.com/plants/house-plants/iso-s-terrariums.html If you’re interested in a custom terrarium, Iso is available for bespoke work. Please ask!

A living vase!

A dishgarden is a collection of plants presented together in a planter, and is a popular "thinking of you" or housewarming gift. This gorgeous design features a shiny zz plant, a lovely lime green philodendron, and a gorgeous angel wing begonia (hiding in the back) just setting pink blossoms. But the best part is that we’ve included a glass vase in the design, and filled it to the brim with local flowers! A living vase, if you will, as the plants can continue settling into the dish garden while the designs in the glass vase are switched out as they fade.

The lush plants in this design are all grown for us by Claussen's Florist & Greenhouse in Colchester, VT. The flower arrangement features a cheerful yellow dahlia grown by Michelle of Kingdom Dahlias, yellow snapdragons grown by Sara of Sandiwood Farm in Wolcott, VT, and purple and white coreopsis grown by Hilary and Dj of Morey Hill Farm in Craftsbury, VT.

We source locally as much as possible, and that includes not only the gorgeous plants and flowers in this design, but also the soil and amendments we use! We used Montpelier, VT-based Vermont Compost Company's Fort Vee potting soil amended with worm castings from Black Dirt Farm in Stannard, VT for extra nutrients to keep this collection of plants happy and thriving.

A living vase indeed, full of healthy, locally-sourced plants, flowers, and soil! What a wonderful and thoughtful gift.

Thank you for reading, and may your days be filled with beautiful flowers.

Which side should I show off?

I usually design my arrangements to have interest on all sides, and this beauty is no different. What I quickly realized, however, is that I just can't choose which side to show off in my pictures!

What do you think? Is the lovely deep and moody side with the purple smokebush and flash of orange crocosmia the "front" of this design? Or is it the side with the cheerful yellow sunnies smiling at us, complete with sweet pink and white zinnia?

Let me know in the comments! Moody or sunny? Which side is the front?

All of the stunning flowers in this piece are from the equally stunning Kingdom Dahlias gardens, grown and harvested by Michelle in beautiful Sheffield, VT.

How do you celebrate someone's birthday all year long? With an annual subscription of gorgeous flowers!

We just designed and delivered this lovely vase arrangement to someone whose birthday was over a month ago, but she gets to celebrate all year with bouquets of fresh, seasonal, local flowers delivered from The Flower Basket every month.

Our customer chose to have her gifts delivered once a month for a year to celebrate her good friend's birthday. We are happy to deliver weekly, biweekly, monthly, or quarterly - you decide what works best for you and your loved ones!

Birthdays aren't the only reason to celebrate with an annual subscription of flowers; anniversaries, holidays, and simply "thinking of you" are all wonderful messages to include with a subscription arrangement.

This particular piece features bold and fragrant flowers from our local growers, including purple foxglove raised in Craftsbury, VT by Dj and Hilary of Morey Hill Farm, fragrant cedar harvested in Walden, VT by Jeremiah of Houston Hill Flower and Herb, purple scabiosa grown by Sara of Sandiwood Farm in Wolcott, VT, and a stunning pink dahlia - one of the first of the season - grown by Michelle of Kingdom Dahlias in Sheffield, VT.

Happy Birthday! All year long :)

Thanks for reading, and may your days be filled with beautiful flowers.

Flowers for a flower lover

We designed and delivered this lush arrangement today to a true flower lover. I admit to being a little nervous while designing, as I knew that the recipient is herself a very talented and thoughtful floral designer, and that she would be looking at the details of this arrangement.

There was no reason to fret, however, as we have such incredible locally-grown flowers available to us that designing a lush, complex, textured, fragrant, and colorful arrangement was a breeze!

I started with the sweet pink-tipped yellow dahlia grown by Michelle of Kingdom Dahlias in Sheffield, VT. I added in some of Michelle's purple ninebark, pink astilbe, brown rudebeckia, and that stunning yellow-tipped brown sunflower for the basis of the design, and included fresh pops of pink with Michelle's pink zinnias.

Flower lovers love watching flowers as they open and grow, and I knew that this particular flower lover would appreciate seeing this design change over time. To heighten the experience of the shifting design, I included a pink and white double lily grown in Craftsbury, VT by Hilary and Dj of Morey Hill Farm, and added in their sweet white and purple coreopsis for a fun accent. The double-layered blossoms of the lily will unfurl over the next few days, releasing a light sweet scent and becoming a more dominant feature of the design as they stretch open.

Fragrance is always a part of a floral design, whether it's low-fragrance, no-fragrance, or highly scented. While the lily will provide a sweet fragrance, I leaned on locally foraged cedar by Jeremiah of Houston Hill Flower and Herb in Wladen, VT to bring in a fresh outdoorsy scent to this piece, and included Jeremiah's Queen Anne's lace for another layer of texture and movement. I added applemint grown by Sara of Sandiwood Farm in Wolcott, VT for a bright scent to complement the cedar and lily.

So there you have it, a lovely design of local flowers perfect for a flower lover! I can't wait to hear how it was received.

We braved the roads this morning to deliver this lovely sympathy piece in time for an afternoon service.

We are so fortunate to work with local growers like Sara of Sandiwood Farm, Marger Villamizar of Dendro, LLC, and Michelle of Kingdom Dahlias who provide us with the incredible flowers and greens we use in our designs. With the exception of the ferns and butter-yellow carnations in this design, it is made entirely of local flowers.
