The person we are seeking must be independent, driven, and well versed in customer service and/or looking to further those skills.

Join Recovery Infrastructure Development at the Harlan Center on Wednesday, April 24th from 10 AM to 3 PM for a day of community support and resources! The event will be filled with resources to guide grandparents, guardians, and friends who have taken on the responsibility of raising children for various reasons. The Guardian Angels event offers FREE food boxes, a complimentary lunch, and the first 50 guests will receive a special Guardian Angels T-shirt. Don't miss out on door prizes and giveaways!

Andrew Hager, the founder of Blameless Children, will also be the keynote speaker and you don't want to miss his presentation! This event is all about building a stronger community, organized by The Recovery Infrastructure Development.

We're excited to share some updates and enhancements that are coming to the Harlan Center! Our goal is always to provide you with exceptional service and facilities, and these changes reflect our ongoing commitment to excellence.

Introducing Our New Rates:
To continue providing the high-quality service and upgraded facilities you expect from us, we will be updating our rental rates effective May 1st. Our new rate for booking one room within our convention center will be $110 plus all applicable taxes. This adjustment, our first in over 15 years, will help us keep pace with rising costs and recent improvements we've made in our amenities and services which will soon include new equipment to the convention center which include new projectors, screens, sound experience, and more. We will continue to have all-inclusive packages that provide discounts to large events.

Keeping Our Commitments:
We want to honor those who have planned ahead. Any events booked before May 1st will benefit from our current rates. If you've been considering hosting an event with us, now is a great time to book and secure these rates.

Our team is dedicated to ensuring that your events are successful and memorable, and we look forward to hosting many more fantastic gatherings.

The Harlan Center will be closed for business on January 16th except for the scheduled evening events due to the winter storm. We love it when we get to display some of the incredible talents of our locals in the Harlan Center! Rose Cohelia is a local quilter who stitches some incredible work and has installed a display of some of her talent! The gallery is open to the public during our business hours from 9AM-5PM - Monday-Friday.

The Harlan Center is currently accepting applications for a full time clerk/event set up position. An employee in this position is responsible for the cleanliness of the building and grounds as well as moving equipment, tables, chairs, etc. to set up for meetings and events at the Harlan Center and breaking down after events. Also, the employee will be required to work at the reception desk from time to time answering the phone and helping customers as well as receive payments from customers. This employee will also act as host/hostess during events at the Harlan Center.
Essential Job Functions: This position will require the employee to set up convention rooms for meetings and events at the Harlan Center; maintain the cleanliness of the main hall, service hall, restrooms, kitchen, and upstairs lobby & gallery areas; keep the parking lot and outside grounds clean and free of litter; empty all cigarette butt containers outside the building; take garbage to dumpster; keep the convention rooms clean and orderly at all times; vacuum, sweep, mop, dust, and wash windows as needed; notify the Assistant Director when supplies are low; operate all Center equipment: dishwasher, coffee pot, lift, roll-up doors, t.v.’s, laptop, projector, sound system, etc; work as security/host personnel during after-hours and weekend events at the Center; open up the Center and secure the building before nightly departure. This position will also be required to learn knowledge about the tourism attractions, restaurants, lodging options, etc that exist in Harlan County. This employee will also greet customers, visitors, and other as they interact with the Harlan Center. Some travel may be required and this position will be required to work various events throughout the calendar year for festivals, events, or other.
Job Related Physical Activity Requirements: The employee may be required to perform a variety of demanding physical agility tasks during the normal course of the job. The employee may be required to exert up to 50 pounds of force quite often. Physical activity related to this position may include climbing, stooping, balancing, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, carrying, bending, squatting, and repetitive motions. This employee is subject to indoor environmental conditions about 90% of the time.
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Working knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies, equipment, and techniques; Ability to perform routine operations involved in custodial duties without immediate supervision; Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; Ability to communicate clearly and effectively over the telephone with the general public; tact and courtesy; good physical condition.
Acceptable Experience and Training: Completion of a standard high school education or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the special knowledge, skills and abilities.
