The first Southeast Asian Fusion Restaurant in Brownsville: How it all began
Inspired by the exotic islands around Southeast Asia, BARA was created and designed to bring the exquisite flavor of the Southeast Asian gourmet into modern Asian Fusion Movement without compromising value and taste. Our mission is to ensure an exceptional dining experience while providing fast service of freshly made gourmet food!
Born in Jakarta, Indonesia, Marie Joy Chang grew up around grandma’s restaurant and catering place. She would spend the day tasting the food, learning food preparation, and enchanting cooking skills. Pursuing an education in Culinary school and furthering her studies in Business and Hotel Management in Bali University, Indonesia, she arrived to the U.S to enhance her skills. Working at various restaurants at the same time to gain experience in the food industry led her to open a successful Fusion Bistro restaurant in Anaheim, California.
Now an entrepreneur herself, she decided to test her full knowledge and skills and opened the first Southeast Asian Fusion Restaurant in Brownsville, Texas. BARA offers a wide variety of Southeast Asian gourmet, one of which is the Rendang, named #1 of the Top 50 World’s Most Delicious Food. Marie Chang not only enjoys being part of the food industry, but educating the employees and community of the history of the exotic dishes that trace back to her country. BARA plans to create healthy relationships with its customers outside of the business, ultimately to enhance and acknowledge cultural diversity in the Rio Grande Valley.
