The Hills I’ll Die On as a Wedding Planner

1. Cheap isn’t always cheaper.
I understand budgets, but I also understand value. Sometimes the less expensive choice costs you more in the long run.
2. Hire professionals to do what they do best.
I’m a wedding planner, not a florist, caterer, DJ, photographer, electrician, carpenter or rental company. I know what I’m good at, and I trust professionals to handle what they’re good at.
3. I don’t need to know how to do everything. I need to know who does.
That’s part of being an experienced planner. My job isn’t to be the expert in every category. My job is knowing the right questions to ask, the right people to call and how to bring it all together.
4. If you want it done right, it may cost more.
Experience, expertise, labor, equipment, insurance and reliability have value. You aren’t just paying for the finished product, you’re paying for the years it took that professional to become really good at what they do.
5. Your wedding deserves a planner who knows when to lead, and when to get out of the way.
I don’t need to be the star of your wedding. My job is to make sure the right people are doing the right things at the right time so you get to be the bride and groom, not the project managers.

One of the biggest misconceptions about wedding planners? That we’re all naturally creative. I’ll let you in on a little secret: I’m not. And that’s okay.

My strength isn’t designing the floral arrangements, creating the tablescape, or choosing the perfect color palette. My strength is knowing who does those things exceptionally well and building the right team to bring the vision to life.

Take this beautiful private-residence ceremony designed by Lesley at Ambiance. Their talent is creating an incredible visual experience. My job is making sure that experience can actually happen.

At a private residence, there’s a whole different level of logistics behind the pretty:
• How does everyone load in and load out?
• Where will the equipment go?
• What happens if the wind picks up?
• What’s Plan B? And Plan C?
• Where will guests park?
• Do we need additional restrooms?
• Where will vendors prep food?
• Is there enough electrical power?
• What happens when the unexpected inevitably happens?

That’s my wheelhouse!

I’m a logistics person. A problem solver. A “what if?” thinker. I’m already thinking about the rain plan while everyone else is admiring the flowers. And honestly? Private residences, ranches, unique properties, horse stalls, and unconventional event spaces are some of my favorite events to plan. They can be a LOT of work. But when you have the right team of experts behind you, everyone gets to do what they do best.

Ambiance creates the beautiful. I create the plan that makes the beautiful possible.

And that’s exactly what a great planning team should do.

There’s just something about color that makes my heart happy in a design.

This suite is one of my favorites because it doesn’t hold back, it’s bold, playful, and full of personality. It feels like summer in paper form. I love when couples aren’t afraid to lean into color and let their invitation set the tone for what’s to come…fun, joy-filled, and full of life.

Neutral and minimal will always have their place, but I’ll never stop loving a suite that makes you smile the second you open it.

Color belongs in weddings. Don’t be afraid of it!
