August 1st is a big day for me! Exactly ONE YEAR ago today I left an 8-5 job that I absolutely loved and starting putting all my energy into Preserved Petals by Amy! If you had to describe my personality, risk-taker would be at the bottom of the list. I'll have to say it was a HUGE step of faith, but God kept on giving the affirmation.
I've always loved flowers! My husband is the missions pastor at our church, so we've had the opportunity to travel all over the world. Our family even lived in Russia for a time (such wonderful people!) where every street corner and metro stop was flanked with flower sellers. Back then, I began pressing flowers in books.
Three years ago, I spent my weekends helping my daughter Paige with wedding florals, and at the end of the night, we were throwing away thousands of dollars worth of beautiful flowers, and we began to envision offering flower preservation. Paige gave me flowers that either had broken stems or were leftover and I began studying and practicing flower-pressing techniques. I learned a LOT and messed up a LOT, but I loved the pressing process! I tried working with resin a little bit but found that I'm terrible at working with a gas mask on my face, so I decided to stick with what I love - pressing!
What an absolutely rewarding year getting to rearrange my schedule to spend more time with my family, PLUS preserving such beautiful memories for so many of you! I can't wait for what's in store. I've got some big goals for this coming year so stay tuned....
