Happening this weekend! Let's talk peppers and fall planting at the MOA Potluck, Pepper Show, & Fall Planting Discussion 🫑🌶

Can you guess how many different pepper plant varieties there are in the world?

A quick Google search may tell you 20 or 600!

Let's just agree that the list is endless from sweet bells to flaming habaneros - and we can't get enough!

It's pepper harvesting season in Missouri and so we're celebrating all these varieties at our upcoming MOA Potluck, Pepper Show, & Fall Planting Discussion this weekend at the Hartsburg Grand - Sunday, August 14!

Bring some pepper varieties to show, maybe a delicious pepper recipe to share at the potluck and join us this weekend!

Join MOA and speaker Gary McDonald, for the MOA Workshop & Field Day - Organic W**d Management Decisions. This event will include a field trip to three certified organic farms located in the Hartsburg river bottoms and an afternoon of programming.

What are your plans for next Wednesday evening?

Come down to the historic Hartsburg Grand to listen to some great music from the Hart Creek Ramblers who will be playing at the December Grand Potluck & Farm Report happening next Wednesday, December 15th!

Here's just a few words from the band about what you can expect for this party: "It's a trip back in time. Music from the front porch ringing through the hills; or a h***y tonk in the Hartsburg Bottoms. Hart Creek Ramblers are sure to entertain with tunes from yesteryear along with some ditties from today. Henley thumping the doghouse bass along with Jimmy's solid back beat on the cajon, combined with Todd's smooth guitar riffs and Turner's steel guitar magic provide a sound that is sure to please. The Ramblers look forward to partying with you soon!"

Thank you to Three Creeks Farm + Forest for sharing your knowledge and produce, to Meredith Shaw Music for sharing your musical talents, to every one who brought a dish for sharing your food, and to all of our incredible volunteers for bringing to life these GRAND events!

Bummed you missed out? Don't worry! We'll be gathering again, Monday November 15th for our November Grand Potluck & Farm Report right after the MOA Fall Workshop (Be sure to check out that awesome event too!)

Hey everyone! We know it's looking a little gloomy this weekend but the October Grand Potluck & Farm Report is still happening RAIN or SHINE!

Though with the forecast we wanted to share a few updates for the event:

1. Food will be served inside with seating inside and outside

2. Guest speakers and musicians will be outside on the Grand Station porch (right next door to the Hartsburg Grand)

3. Masks will be required inside

Then just to reiterate, please remember your dish to share and serving utensil, a self-standing description of your dish, a reusable eating utensil, cup, and plate, and a chair so you can sit down and enjoy the evening!

We can't wait to see everyone for another evening of grand fun!

We are so excited to welcome Paul & Emily from Three Creeks Farm + Forest to the Hartsburg Grand stage for our October Grand Potluck & Farm Report happening this Friday, October 15th!

Three Creeks is a diversified farm in Boone County, MO that grows and harvests a wide variety of vegetables, herbs, flowers and wild edibles in the Missouri River Hills.

All of their food is grown without the use of synthetic pesticides or fertilizers, and we use many other practices to preserve natural resources and promote ecological health. These include cover crops, polyculture, minimal/shallow tillage, OMRI-approved and integrated pest management, a rotational pasture system for livestock, perennial plantings, paper mulch, locally-sourced and certified organic compost applications, buffer strips, on-site composting, and agroforestry. 🌱

We can't wait for them to speak to our event attendees along with great dancing music from Meredith Shaw Music and of course, as always, delicious local food! So bring your favorite dish and we hope you join us this Friday!

We are super excited to share that for September's Grand Potluck & Farm Report, we will be featuring Farmer Dan talking about the "Lacto- Fermentation" of vegetables (sauerkraut, kimchi, dill pickles) and how it relates to gut health and the human microbiome.

Plus, he will also be serving grilled local brats from Sullivan Farms MO and Patchwork Family Farms with Farmer Dan's own sauerkraut as a topping if desired. Can you tell our mouths are watering yet?

Hello! 👋

We have just a few updates to share.

Earlier this year the historic Hartsburg Grand building was graciously donated to the Missouri Organic Association! Our plans for the building are to not only continue the availability to book it for weddings and celebrations as it has in the past but also to provide a reservable space for educational events, organic food pop-ups, and other further organic food and farming programming.

Starting July 6th we will be opening the building up for reservations which will be available on our site at: https://moaorganic.org/events/

Thank you for your loyalty to this beautiful building and we hope for your continued support in this new endeavor!

In honor of the 300+ bikers coming through tomorrow on the Katy Trail State Park Ride, we will be open from 11-2. Meals, drinks and snacks available for purchase. All are welcome to visit us!

This morning we had an amazing young basketball team come down to the Grand to help us with some of the heavy lifting in preparation for our Bikes Beer and BBQ event tomorrow. They were a pleasure to work with and we would highly recommend them if you are looking for someone to help with any kinds of odd jobs (including yard work). They moved furniture, power washed, and swept. Thank you Team Carroll, and coaches!

Last Saturday's weather had all of Mid-Missouri on its heels. Us at the Grand? We hosted an amazing wedding and reception through the torrential rain, tornado warnings, and mild flooding. Congratulations to the new Mr. And Mrs. Jose! Thanks for choosing us to make your day Grand!
