What do you get when you mix an aerobatic airplane ride, an introduction to sound energy and it’s mixing potential, and arguably one of Montana’s most historic downtowns?

Unplugged ceremonies are all the rage, and they can make a photographer’s job easier by not having to dodge Grandma’s iPad to get the shot of the first kiss.
But, what if something were to happen to the photographer’s images and they were the only one taking photos of that moment?
It is extremely rare, but putting all your eggs in one basket can make for heartache if the images are lost.
And let’s be honest… putting a sign at the top of the aisle (that NOBODY reads) isn’t going to dissuade anyone if they want the moment.
If you plan to let your guests keep their phones out during the ceremony, here are a few tips on making the experience the best for both your guests AND your photographer.
TIP 1: GIVE THE GUESTS A DESIGNATED PORTION OF THE CEREMONY TO CLICK AWAY.
If you can’t beat ‘em, give them what they want.
Pick a designated time in your ceremony (usually towards the beginning works best) to let everyone get the shot they want.
Turn and face the crowd and within a few moments everyone usually has everything they need. This frees them up to enjoy the rest of the moment, and gives them the shot they want, too.
TIP 2: MAKE YOUR AISLE WIDER.
From a photographer’s perspective, the MOST important real estate during the ceremony is the aisle.
It is the angle that gives us all the best photos of the big moments, like first looks, vows and the kiss.
If a guest reaches out their phone (or worse, iPad) in the aisle, we lose our angle and our opportunity.
Instead, make the aisle twice as wide, leaving the middle of the aisle free from hands and electronics reaching out and giving your photographer a clean shot.
TIP 3: COLLECT ALL THE GUESTS PHOTOS
There are more and more options for collecting all the moments your guests capture on your wedding day, and it can be a very candid and personal way to see the day through their eyes.
Use apps like @guestpix, @wedibox and others to have them submit the images after the wedding.
