I try not to have favorites, but this is definitely at the top of my list. If you know me, you know I am an animal lover. So, when someone asks to add in their animals to their family photoshoot. YES! PLEASE! Especially if it's a fluffy cow in a Santa hat!

This girl has had a memorable start to her 6-year-old year! Falling and breaking her arm at her birthday party was also the same weekend we originally planned to do pictures. So, a little delay and one cast later... But she's still just as cute 🩷

Congrats to all the connections of Only I Exist

Sharp younger horses on an upward career trajectory were in the spotlight at Harrah’s Philadelphia on Thursday, Nov. 7. Only I Exist made a case as the most impressive of that group, winning for the 14th straight time in her first appearance outside of Maryland.

2024 Ocean Downs recap!

My first summer at Ocean Downs has come to an end. I am so thankful to have been given this opportunity. The amount of growth I have seen in myself not only professionally but personally surprised me. It wasn’t easy but the support and encouragement from family and friends (new and old) has been incredible. I definitely was not perfect. There were typos, shots missed, and things forgotten but I am so thankful for all the people I met and the grace that they gave me along the way. (Well most of them anyway🙃)

If you still have photos to pick up please send me a message if you haven’t already arranged pickup/shipping.

I will be booking personal sessions throughout the year. Message me to book 📸

It’s been fun. See you next summer 🌊✌🏼

Wagner doubles in Maryland Sire Stakes rookie finals

from Ocean Downs Racing Publicity (K. Moyer photo)

BERLIN, Md. — Trainer John Wagner captured two of the four $87,500 Maryland Sire Stakes championship events for 2-year-olds on Wednesday (Sept. 4) at Ocean Downs, sending Brooksforreal and K J The Thirteenth to victory in their respective events. Ragtime Red and Yall Keep Dreaming captured their divisional finals as well, resulting in clean sweeps of the series by all four champions.

Brooksforreal, who won at odds-on in both his preliminary legs, captured the Earl M. Wagner Memorial, for 2-year-old male pacers, as the 5-2 second choice, upending 2-5 favorite Rusty's Lancelot heading to the final turn en route to a 6-1/4-length score. Driver Corey Braden had Brooksforreal in motion out of third after Rusty's Lancelot rated a :59 first half, and the Rusty's For Real-Brooks Range gelding pushed to the lead past three-quarters in 1:29 before accelerating home in :28.1 for a lifetime-best 1:57.1 triumph. Rusty's Lancelot held second narrowly over Whosabrat.

Kelsey Wagner owns three-time winner Brooksforreal, who paid $7.80 to win.

Wagner drove his other victorious trainee, K J The Thirteenth, to a 2:02 victory over Yall Just Love Me in the Hubert Jackson Memorial, for 2-year-old trotting fillies. The Il Mago-My Kid Sister filly rolled unopposed through splits of :30.4, 1:01.4 and 1:33.1 before picking up the tempo through a :28.4 last quarter to stave off Yall Just Love Me by a nose. Y'all Know Me finished third.

K J The Thirteenth has now won four times in seven starts for owners Kelsey Wagner and Scott Woogen. She paid $3.00 to win.

Yall Keep Dremaing kept his undefeated career record intact with a 2:03.2 win in the W.W. "Pete" Shaw Memorial, for 2-year-old male trotters. Johnathan Ahle controlled the terms with Yall Keep Dreaming for owner-trainer Richard Hans, who also bred the Yall Beneath Me-Upside Blue Chip c**t. After rating splits of :30.1, 1:02.1 and 1:33, Yall Keep Dreaming strode clear of pocket rival Swervingmervin to win for the fourth time in as many lifetime starts by a widening 6-1/4 lengths and pay $2.10. Magoo Will Do overcame an early break to save third.

The Dale Massey Memorial, for 2-year-old pacing fillies, saw Ragtime Red and driver Trae Porter sprint clear of Lu's Darling from post eight to control a :58 first half before widening her lead steadily up the backstretch. After leaving Lu's Darling in her wake, Ragtime Red evaded runner-up Toys Little Tinker by 13 lengths to win in 1:56.2. Post Jolene finished third.

Now a four-time winner, Ragtime Red paid $2.20 as the overwhelming 1-9 favorite. Michael Hall trains the Getitoffyourchest-Red High Heels filly, who competes as a homebred for David Banks.

The 2024 Ocean Downs harness racing meet concludes Thursday (Sept. 5) with an 11-race program. First post is 7:05 p.m.

featuring Merle "Moe" LaFountaine!

Merle LaFountaine has been in the horse business his entire life, staring his own stable of horses at the age of 18. He has lived in Ohio and Michigan and his current home state of Maryland. He has been an integral part of horse racing as an owner, trainer and driver. He is the Patrol Judge for Ocean Downs Racing and he has been here every summer since 2017. Moe recently received his accreditation to become an associate judge which is no easy feat!

Moe loves Racing and being a judge as no two races are ever the same. He is constantly alert to everything that is going on at every moment before, during and after the race has finished. Moe is vey busy as he handles judge and investigating duties at many other racetracks including the Meadowlands, Chester, Rosecroft, Harrington, Dover and Freehold.

When Moe isn’t working he enjoys spending quality time with his wife Jennifer. They get to as many baseball games as they can, thrifting, and travel when time permits especially cruising, as they are looking forward to their next trip in 2025.

We here at Ocean Downs are lucky to have an exemplary team member like Moe!

Berlin, MD — Dawn Amiss’ homebred Fantastic Voyage responded to sustained late pressure from 1-2 favorite Lyons Stealth and prevailed narrowly in the final Open Handicap Pace of the 2024 Ocean Downs meet, recording a 1:52.1 win in Sunday’s (Sept. 1) $10,000 feature and giving driver Jared Moyer one of his three wins on the program.

Moyer sent Fantastic Voyage to a clear lead from post five over the pole-sitting Starship, and they traveled one-two through early splits of :26.4 and :55 before Cole Olsen activated Lyons Stealth from third heading into the second lap. After being pushed to three-quarters in 1:23 by his outside rival, Fantastic Voyage dug deep through a protracted stretch duel and kept Lyons Stealth a half-length at bay for his sixth win of the year. Bipbopnallie closed from last to finish third.

BERLIN, Md. — After her 4-1/2-length score last week, Ragtime Red delivered a similarly dominant performance in the second Maryland Sire Stakes preliminary round for 2-year-old fillies, held Wednesday (Aug. 28) at Ocean Downs, pacing a lifetime-best 1:55.2 mile in her $10,000 division. Pacer Lu's Darling and trotter K J The Thirteenth also repeated in their respective divisions.

Ragtime Red Sat the pocket behind 19-1 pacesetter Post Jolene through a :58 half before Trae Porter moved her off the pegs and brushed to the lead in a :28.1 third split. One activated, the Getitoffyourchest-Red High Heels filly sped four lengths clear of her six rivals, and she maintained that margin at the winning post over Toys Little Tinker, who rallied for second. Post Jolene faded to third.

Michael Hall trains Ragtime Red, a three-time winner who competes as a homebred for David Banks. She paid $2.10 to win.

The other pacing split saw Lu's Darling ($3.00) and driver Eric Davis turn aside a backstretch challenge from Charlotteslove before evading pocket foe Mygirlmia by 2-1/4 lengths and winning in a career best-equaling 1:59.2. Jerry Nock owns, trains and bred the four-time winner, a daughter of Rusty's For Real-Southern Lulu.

In the lone trotting division, K J The Thirteenth ($2.40) and trainer-driver John Wagner strolled through the first three-quarters in 1:33 before withstanding a late charge from Yall Just Love Me by a diminishing neck in 2:02.3. The Il Mago-My Kid Sister filly, who has won four times for owners Kelsey Wagner and Scott Woogen.

The sub-featured $9,500 Daryl Glazer Memorial, for preferred trotters, went to Muscledover ($3.20), who reeled off a second consecutive top-level win in authoritative fashion. Now an 11-time winner, the 5-year-old Dover Dan gelding pushed to the early lead and kept the late-rallying Judge Bob 4-1/4 lengths at bay for a 1:56.1 score. Russell Foster was at the lines for trainer Edwin Gannon Jr. and the partnership of Zippett Racing Stable and Amos Lengacher.

Davis, Foster and Johnathan Ahle all scored driving doubles on the 11-race card.

Live racing returns to Ocean Downs on Thursday (Aug. 29); first post is 7:05 p.m.
