The Arranger's Market

The Arranger's Market Here at The Arranger's Market we deal in all things flowers. Any equipment we offer (vase brushes, clippers, etc.)

Our flower arranging supply shop is for those who want to create beautiful arrangements but don't want to spend hours doing it and don't want to use environmentally unfriendly materials (like floral foam). We specialize in easy-to-use but hard to find containers that are smart (in that they hold flowers without additional elaborate mechanics), simple, and sophisticated. Because we believe the purp

ose of flower arranging is to celebrate nature, we also like containers that keep the focus on the plant material, not on the vessel holding it. is something we know works better than anything else on the market.

Two days ago, I brutally divided a potted hellebore to put in small planters. In the process, some stems broke off. I randomly put them in water and went to bed. In the morning, they were beyond sad. As I was going to drop them in the compost, I thought back to last spring when I did an experiment that demonstrated just how successful properly conditioning hellebores could be. Even though I needed a project like I needed a hole in the head, I decided to really put the results of that experiment to the test. Were these blooms too far gone? I gave the bottom of each stem a fresh cut, lightly scored the last 2” with a sharp knife in a downward motion twice, and put them in the hottest water that my faucet can make. Clearly, the answer to my question was no, not too far gone at all! 🤯

Costume Change!! Recognize this container? It, the sticks, and many of the greens it contains are literally leftover from my Thanksgiving Centerpiece Workshop demonstration, which has been evolving on my kitchen table ever since.

Sadly, garden flowers are all gone. ☹️Winter is upon us and you’re either gonna embrace the spoils of winter, which there are many, or you might cheat and buy store-bought flowers like I did here. This is an arrangement done with one TJ bouquet + holly + dogwood from the yard. I was trying to get a little asymmetry going to market a workshop that I’m doing at Lewis Ginter next year. Shhh… registration is open

This is what a true Flower Camp Thanksgiving looks like. As though we weren’t having enough fun, my S-I-L got everyone t-shirts with #’s by age/addition to the family. And yes, we have a tiny #17 coming in April, and a marriage ( #18) in May

You just can’t make this stuff up! I thought I had dotted every i and crossed every t for yesterday’s workshop, but apparently I hadn’t factored in the possibility of a freight train stopping on the tracks just as our participants were scheduled to arrive. Oh, and did I mention there was also a holiday parade in Ashland that day? Yes, I had prepared for that, but not the combination of the two! 🥹

These photos/video are from when we were just watching, waiting, and hoping that our people would be able to get to us. In the end, the train did finally move and our folks made it [albeit late], but it was certainly an anxious time. 🥵

Based on the smiles on people’s faces and the quality of the designs walking out the door at the end, I’m going to call the workshop a success, but it literally took years off my life!

FYI I didn’t just choose the background music for this post. A screenshot was sent to me by .devoe.18 who was literally sitting in stopped-train traffic trying to get to the workshop when this song (Last Train Home) came on. Crazy!

Yesterday I had the honor of presenting a few arranging ideas to the delightful (and talented) women of the Garden Club of Gloucester. This particular arrangement demonstrated how to naturalize Trader Joe's flowers (and fruit) with only a few materials from the backyard: forsythia & magnolia.

Pulling together details for a Lewis Ginter arranging workshop that I am doing in January called “Fruit-Full Designs”. Stay tuned! Their winter schedule comes out in early December. And I promise there will be more fruit than I used in this arrangement which should be entitled “Barely Fruited”. It was all I had in the crisper drawer 🤣

Setting up the shop at .stephens_episcopal_church tomorrow for the Holiday Bazaar. It’s one of my favorite fall events. Did I mention that I’ll be in the room with the refreshments?! And no, I cannot figure out a way to get rid of all of these Cattle Baron's Ball leftover hydrangeas. Blue hydrangeas with Cosmos - what in the world?!

A few close-ups of some items that I had for sale last week at the club fall fundraiser. Can you believe that most of these flowers are leftovers from The Cattle Baron's Ball two weekends ago?
