Yeopim Flowers

Yeopim Flowers Consults are by appointment. Message us or call 252-377-5862 Yeopim Flowers is Southern through and through. We prefer using the blooms found in Southern gardens.

Presentations - A little quirky, always natural, and a bit of an English Garden is how we describe our work. We are associated with many growers and use NC-grown flowers whenever possible. Flowers - When a new plant arrives at our farm we instantly know it is going to be our favorite. Then something else comes along and this is sure to be our favorite. Our grow list expands daily to include tradit

ional Southern gardens and native plants of the Albemarle region. Farm - Sometimes if you want something done right you just have to do it yourself. Instead of relying completely on outside growers, Yeopim Flowers now has a small flower farm producing textures and colors found only in nature.

This post is a little different than the normal! How many of you guys have ever seen flowers or blooms on a peanut plant? They normally come on the plant about 45 to 50 days after planting. And from each of these blooms a peg or pin will come out and head for the ground. And when it touches the ground there needs to be a good amount of calcium on the surface. And if there is not enough calcium no nut or a really small nut will form inside the hull. You may have seen our trucks out spreading calcium on the fields in the last week or so. And we're spreading gypsum, the same product that is made into wallboard in your house! And after harvest if the hull is cracked in order to get to the peanut inside, there will be a POP and you will find a small, shriveled peanut! And that's why we call those peanuts "POPS"! WHO KNEW?

This guy, my big brother, Ben Hobbs, is the reason we The Gardeners at Hayes even considered taking on the Arbor Project…working with him this week has made me realize how truly amazing he is. Thanks to Ben, the Arbor Project is well on its way.

FYI…We have absolutely no idea when the new arbor will be installed but will let you know as soon as it is.

Today is a big day for the Gardeners at Hayes…the wood was delivered for the arbor…to think the Hayes Gardeners actually raised the money and now rebuilding it for the community sure makes my heart warm ❣️

For most of my life I was unaware of the power local women had on shaping our national and local history …a couple of truly extraordinary examples are:

Teenager Betsy Dowdy rode her horse Bess over 40 miles from Currituck Banks to Hertford to warn Gen. Skinner’s Militia of British attack in 1775.

On October 25, 1774, fifty-one local women came together to write and sign a statement about their decision not to buy tea.

And on a more personal level, the ladies who plant flower gardens…making our world a better place.

Happy International Women’s Day

Recently the gardeners realized a parking plan was needed for Easels and events at Hayes. While coming up with a workable solution a huge grape vine was discovered growing in a beech tree. Soon a group of gardeners cut canes, freed the beech tree and now working to save the grapevine. Don’t know what kind of grapes it produces but hopefully we will next fall.

FYI - when grapevines are cut water is drawn up through the stem until it reaches the canes and pushes out sap…they actually bleed from the freshly cut surfaces, dripping clear liquid or “tears” for several weeks.

…last year when the Gardeners at Hayes started this gate only opened about 12 inches…over the years soil had collected at its base. In the last weeks we have worked with crowd control issues and feel we have come up with some awesome solutions…such as this perfect entrance for Easels in the Garden?

The Gardeners at Hayes are pretty proud of this little rose bush. As you can see it was buried in vegetation, so we freed it, we pruned it, we uprooted it, we replanted it and now it’s thriving.

Recently I was reminded green tea is made with camellia leaves. Turns out you can make tea from the leaves of the camellias in Gardens at Hayes, however, it most likely would be rather bitter. The plant used for most green tea is the Camellia sinensis.

Our Story

Our mission is simple - listen carefully and deliver dreams.

Presentations - We admit we are a little quirky, natural as can be and hold close to our Southern roots. We work primarily with wedding and events florals. During our growing season we deliver arrangements and buckets of blooms to local businesses and homes.

And about the Flower Patch - if you want something done right you just have to do it yourself. We like to work with lots of color and texture, thus the reason we grow a few flowers.
