Amaryllis season is here! These often gifted bulbs can be saved, stored in a cool dark place and given a chance to bloom again next year!
To give yours has the best chance of actually blooming again next year and not just producing leaves, allow the plant to fully fade on it’s own - it takes a few months. Don’t cut the long green suncatcher leaves that nourish the bulb. After the blooms fall, allow the leaves to grow and gradually die off, then store in a cool dark basement until next September or October when you can bring it out, trim off completely dead brown leaves and place in a sunny warm location and start watering. Your bulb should bloom in the next growing cycle. If all you get are leaves next year, the leaves didn’t capture enough nutrients to produce a flower. Give it another year following the steps above and you might get a flower the following year after the leaves hold onto enough nutrients.

If you live in the south, another option to try is planting your bulb in the ground outside in spring! It might surprise you with flowers in summer! Afterall, it is a tropical plant!
