Several months ago, when we threw our hat in the ring for The Best of The Region NWI Times reader poll, we did so with optimism and good faith, but as a startup not even a year old, we didn't know if we stood much of a chance this soon into the game.
In the meantime, as the votes accrued, we continued to do what we do best...we built up our name by crafting floral work of exemplary beauty, and made every customer feel welcomed and appreciated with the service we provide.
So imagine our surprise when we were phoned a few months ago by a Times representative telling us that we had placed in not only one, not only two, but ALL THREE categories in the 2025 poll.
Here is a breakdown of how we placed, as voted by the NWI public.
We placed 2nd for Best Gift Shop,
coming in only behind the inestimable Shrine of Christ's Passion in Saint John. For a business like ours, only 10 months old at the time of the voting, to come in so closely behind such a well-established and well loved establishment as SoCP is a HUGE feather in our cap... especially because we love that place, too!
We came in at 2nd Place for BEST FLOWER SHOP. We can't tell you how flattered we are that the floral work we've provided for less than a year is so impressive that we only lost 1st place to a major corporate Region grocery chain....and one we have great respect for, at that.
Lastly, I'd also like to mention that we placed 2nd for Best New Business.
Coming in just ahead of us was Willow Blooms, who is carrying on the legacy of Brumm's Bloomin' Barn, the Region-famous florist and gift shop that was opened in 1970 and lasted for 50 years, until Jerry and Nancy Brumm retired. We tip our caps to the Willow Blooms folks for rebranding such a dynamic legacy as that of The Brumms'.
As a startup that just opened this past Summer, going up against so many long- time established businesses, we couldn't have begun to imagine that we would even place!
We are flattered at the recognition placed in us by The Times readers and the clientele who have pushed our Google reviews to the highest in the area, but we have to say, our real joy comes from seeing the warm smiles and welcomed voices of the customers who, with every visit through our door or every ring on our phone, we come to think of as friends.
Sincerely and with extreme gratitude,
Cammi Friederichs (Golden Afternoon owner, founder, and lead floral designer) and A.S.(our hardworking manager)
