One of our favorite details from Brad + Lauren's wedding day was the custom craft beer 6 packs that guests took home as wedding favors. DeHop’s Brewing Company (owned by the bride's father) created a custom brew called Flight 6041, named after the flight where the bride and groom first met!

Sometimes it’s the smallest details that mean the most. How have you honored a loved one who is no longer with you on your wedding day?

This bride attached pictures of her father to her shoes so that he could still be a part of walking her down the aisle. Other sentiments included incorporating a special diamond in her necklace and an honorary pin in her bouquet. 💞💐

Kayla and her girlfriends were excited to travel to Charleston, SC to celebrate her Bachelorette Party. The weekend itinerary included a private candle making class, cocktails on a rooftop bar, and an elegant dinner to celebrate the bride-to-be.

Due to the pandemic, flights had to be cancelled and plans needed to be changed. We re-planned the gathering for a night out in downtown Grand Rapids. The ladies were excited for swanky cocktails, attending the piano bar, and staying the night downtown.

As the stay-at-home order was extended it became clear that we couldn’t count on restaurants and bars opening in a timely manner or having the capacity to accommodate our large group. Again, we re-planned! Finally, we settled on a COVID safe gathering that we knew we could execute under any circumstances.

Welcome to Camp Bachelorette! A backyard glamping experience set up to celebrate the bride-to-be. Plans included a canvas yurt tent, life-size yard games, fall cocktails, and a candlelit dinner. Michigan weather handed us a day full of rain, but we quickly accommodated by moving dinner inside. Kayla’s girlfriends even braved the rain for a gourmet s’mores bar by the fire and spent the night in the tent.

Hello 👋 Happy Friday!

I’m Kara and I live in Holland, MI with my husband Corey and adorable cockapoo Kedzie. I love being active and spending time with family and friends, whether it be on a hike or exploring new breweries. Each fall you can find Corey and I at Spartan Stadium cheering on the MSU football team, except this year 😭

In 2013, I secured an internship in the events industry and naturally fell in love with it. My internship turned into a full-time position where I spent the next six years immersed in planning and executing a wide variety of community events.

This past March I parted ways with my full-time job. I started asking myself: “What do I do next? Should I start the business I’ve been dreaming of for years? Was I ready to take the leap of being self-employed?

Lucky for me, I had a friend who had similar aspirations as I did. After a lot of brainstorming and planning, Torri and I decided to take a leap of faith and start Melons + Marigolds.

Now, here I am, doing all my favorite things with all of you.It’s my passion to make your dream event come to life and you can rely on me for advice and guidance that always has your best interest in mind.

I’m beyond grateful for this opportunity and thoroughly excited for what’s in store this next year and beyond.

Hey! I’m Torri. I’m married to a cute farmer and we live in Zeeland, MI with our pup Luna. We just purchased our forever home, an 1860s farmhouse, just across the street from my husband’s family dairy farm. I have a dream of turning the greenhouse on our new property into an intimate event space with an adjacent cut flower field for our family to enjoy. I love harnessing my creativity in home design, entertaining, and writing for my blog in my spare time.

Near the end of my time at Michigan State, I secured an internship that turned into a full-time job at an event venue in West Michigan and it didn’t take long to discover that the event industry was where I belonged. I began my career planning weddings, meetings, corporate and non-profit fundraisers, retirement parties, showers, golf outings, and holiday gatherings. Eventually, I headed to work in the non-profit sector and planned additional fundraisers, community parades, and art markets.

I have always thrived on the creative side of the planning process. Taking event design from a mere idea to a tangible experience is what excites me most about each celebration. I believe in the feeling your guest should have the moment they walk into your event space and I’m excited to have the opportunity to work with clients ready to WOW their guests. Can’t wait to chat with you about your next gathering!

When it came to selecting a name for our business, we felt it was important to celebrate our complementary skill sets while also recognizing our individuality. We were heavy into the brainstorming process when we came across a gardening article discussing companion planting. This sentence immediately resonated with us:

“Many seasoned gardeners believe that certain plant combinations, when positioned side by side, have extraordinary powers to help each other grow.”

Melons and marigolds are companion plants. While we are individuals with unique strengths, we see the power in what each of us can accomplish side by side.

Hi! We are thrilled to debut Melons + Marigolds, LLC: a full-service event planning and design company dedicated to curating life’s memorable celebrations.

We recognize that launching an event planning business in the height of a pandemic seems unconventional, however, we are passionate that there is no better time to intentionally celebrate the special moments in your life, regardless of the size or appearance of your gathering.

As we officially announce the launch of our business, we can’t help but to reflect on 2020 and share with you how Melons + Marigolds came to be.

This year brought unexpected and challenging experiences our way, but they have turned out to be blessings in disguise. During Michigan’s stay-at-home order, we took advantage of the time we were given to slow down and explore what truly drives joy in each of our lives. Our virtual happy hours consisted of conversations rooted in support which prompted discussions about what life might look like and how we would navigate our careers as things eventually returned to ‘normal’. These discussions quickly exposed a mutual entrepreneurial dream that today we get to make a reality and share with you!
