As always, had a great time DJing this weekend! You never know what the night will bring no matter what club or event you may be DJing for lol Never in my life did I ever think I would be a DJ..but here I am, 13 1/2 years in and still going! Most of the time a DJ is defined as an egotistical “life of the party/center of attention” type of person who only thinks of themself and only plays what they want to play with no regard to what the crowd wants to hear. One minute we are the “Best DJ EVER!” and the next minute “The DJ SUCKS!”..and more times than not, this is expressed multiple times by one person, mean-muggin’ the DJ straight from the dance floor throughout the night. This can all depend on their mood before they even walk in the door or if a song they requested isn’t played bc it doesn’t fit the preferred vibe. People don’t realize how much pressure us DJ’s put on ourselves when we come across people who act like that. They also don’t realize exactly what it takes to be a successful DJ or the work that goes into making a safe and fun environment by “simply” controlling the vibe and atmosphere with the music. I humbly admit that I am far from being the best DJ and I am always trying to improve my craft. I am proud of my accomplishments over the years and I have my better half to thank the most. Jimmy Cranford has helped me grow in so many ways, has supported me every step of the way, and has helped me make a name for myself. I appreciate everyone who comes out to support and party with me every week. It means way more than anyone realizes! Unfortunately, I have been judged and belittled from the very beginning (mostly by other DJ’s), people have underestimated my abilities and my knowledge, clubs have used me to build a crowd only to toss me to the curb for someone less experienced/cheap, and others (mostly men who have never touched or even seen a turntable) always seem to think they can come up and TELL me how to do my job all bc I’m a female in a male dominated field. Over the years I have learned to appreciate those who support me no matter what and even those who don’t bc either way, they all fuel my fire! I know what I’m capable of and my reputation speaks for itself! To ALL of my fellow DJ’s, supporters or not, thank you! I truly admire and appreciate each and every one of you! I know there will come a day when I will no longer DJ but until then I’m going to continue to do what I love!
Random thought: I wonder what our grandkids will think of us when they are told that we used to be badass DJ’s who got paid to party every weekend 🤔🤯🤣❤️
