LETTER FROM THE CO-DIRECTORS LORI DIVINE AND VITEK KRUTA

Dear friends and valued customers of Gateway City Arts,

We’re writing to share some exciting news, but first, we want to thank you for your amazing support and patience throughout the last seven years. Since we first opened our doors in 2012, we’ve expanded, evolved, and repurposed our space and we would never have been able to get this far without you. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you!

We are happy to announce that we are finally arriving at the vision Gateway City Arts set out to become. We’ve completely overhauled our food and beverage options, redesigned our campus for easier navigation, and brought in some new and retooled programming. All together we hope these changes will make us a unique place within Holyoke and the Pioneer Valley - a cultural center that houses the arts, local creative businesses, entertainment of all mediums and genres, paired with excellent food and drink.

Yes, with our creative explorations we’ve also had growing pains. We want to acknowledge that certain offerings at GCA have not been as clear or consistent as we would have liked. It’s been a learning experience for us as we’ve worked to make our vision a reality. With time, we’re better at understanding what works and what doesn’t, what the community wants, and how to operate a functioning business while dealing with the demands of construction and plans to grow. Simply put, we’ve done a lot of listening, observing and adjusting and we are really excited about our next phase.

We are introducing Judds Restaurant, which will feature Czech-American inspired courses, upscale cocktails and a wine bar in a beautiful, new dining room next to the Small Works Gallery. We created this restaurant because we heard that you want a quieter space, separate from the music venue. The restaurant is named in tribute to the building’s founders: the Judd Paper Company.

The Bistro will be revamped to feature Grab n' Go style new lunch options as well as catering opportunities for any occasion.

Finally, we are also introducing Race Street Tacos, the perfect food pairing for our Taproom, which will continue to highlight our extensive selection of local and craft beers.

We’ve heard that it can be hard to find your way around our campus. We took this feedback to heart and have re-named our entertainment areas. Stage ONE (formerly main stage), a concert hall with a 500 person capacity, will continue to host large events. Stage TWO (formerly the MLPH) will be available for concerts, performances, theater, events, and gatherings with a 150 person capacity. Keep an eye out for new signage to help you find your way around.

After a long phase of construction, GCA can now fully focus on programming, memberships, collaborations, and educational opportunities. Cowork92 on the second floor has been transformed to show off our incredible view of the Holyoke canal and offers private meeting space. Our Small Works Gallery continues to offer exciting art exhibits. At the lower level, we are currently renovating our arts & crafts studios to include a woodshop, ceramic studio, classrooms, and a maker space. Finally, we’re home to The New England Media Lab - stay tuned for innovative creative content.

We know it’s a lot to absorb all at once, and we want to assure you that all of these changes will be reflected in a brand-new website to launch this fall. Check back soon for a website that will encompass all that we offer in a simple and straightforward format.

The GCA you know and love isn’t going anywhere. We want to make your visit more comfortable and to ensure that you remain a vital part of the revitalization of downtown Holyoke.

We are thrilled to share this news and can’t wait for you to see it for yourself very soon. We certainly could not have done it without you. Thanks again for your support and patience as our journey continues.
