As most have probably already heard, the time has come for Liz and I to move on to the next stage of our lives into semi-retirement. LOL. Thanks to the great help of Team Tinkham-Rick and Pam Tinkham of Berkshire Hathaway Realty for their huge amount of help in both finding a very nice family to step in to own and operate Bloom 'n Art into its future and helping guide us thru this transaction. I would also like to give a real thanks to all our family and local kids over the years (Now Adults) who are now considered family for their help mowing, watering maintaining and building the shop to what it is today. Liz and I couldn’t have survived the past 27 years without you. But mostly I would like to thank our customers. Over the last 27 years the most enjoyable part of my job at the shop was visiting and talking with all of you. Again, thank you for the past 27 years, and we won’t be far!!

Over the past years we have provided many beautiful pieces for the home and office...but nothing has ever topped this Patriotic Shadow Box.
This, likely will be the final piece that we will be able to offer...and we are honored to do so.

27 years ago we purchased this parcel of land to build our home and start a new business.

Hoosick Falls became our new home and Bloom’n Art was born.

Many of you have told Rich and I that you remember when we opened. We started out quite small...opening our doors in Oct 1994....27 years ago....painted pumpkins, Indian corn and a few local crafts.

Because of you we were able to grow. We never allowed any customer that entered our store ....to leave without something....even if it was “a smile!”

We are not Closing, but we are Retiring.

We have always had 4 important goals.

1. Grow a successful business
2. Support our community
3. Turn customers into friends
4. Keep things as they are!

We both feel that we did our best, with your help to complete 1-3.

We have been thinking of retiring for a few months and have been hoping for someone that loves what we do to pick up the watering wand and complete goal 4.

With a heavy heart, we are now able to make it official.....
We are retiring and passing the watering wand to the new owner on or about November 22, 2021.

We will try to post as things move along.

I knew this was going to be difficult when the time came, but it’s harder than I thought.

Peppers and Millet are here!
We also have an exciting Zone 4 ....in bloom...Autumn Clematis to introduce....but we are already in short supply as it started flying before I could list it!

Before that we want to let our perennial gardners and landscapers know that we are running a “short time” sale on all of our remaining (very low supply this year) stock.

Before the next gardening season is upon us I have several questions for all of our “Flower Buddies”
I’m hoping you can give us a few minutes to help us any readers who could benefit.

1. Have you purchased DEER DEFEAT?

2. Have you used it on your garden?

3. If you answered yes, did you apply it following the directions?

4. Were you happy with the results?
(We know that this was a very disappointing season re -sun & +rain)
But did it manage to keep the squirrels, rabbits, woodchucks & deer at bay?

Thanks for taking the time to chat.

I was watering rhubarb plants this morning and remembered one of my favorite recipes that I would like to share.

Because the season is so short,
I like to chop my rhubarb in 1/2” cubes and freeze so that I can use it year round.

This is so easy....it shouldn’t taste as good as it is. I’ve found people that say, they don’t like rhubarb, yet love this desert.

Try it abd see for yourself!

RHUBARB PUDDING CAKE

Preheat oven as directed on cake box.

1 box yellow cake mix, prepared as directed on box.

5 cups rhubarb, chopped ( I use frozen but it can be fresh)

2 Cups sugar

2 Cups Heavy Whipping Cream
—————————————————-
Rhubarb needed
1-1/2 Lbs = about 5 cups
OR
14-15 Stalks = 5 cups
—————————————————-
Mix chopped rhubarb with sugar, let stand while mixing cake.

Spread batter in 9” x 13” pan.

Evenly spread rhubarb/sugar over top.

Pour heavy cream evenly over all.

Bake 1 hr 15 mins to 1 hr 30 mins, or until done when tested with toothpick.

YUMMY!

We still have a good selection of quality Flowering Baskets, Pouches, Deco Pots and 4” Proven Winners.

Late July is the time of year that our gardens and pots seem to get a bit tired, caused by various elements............
Too little or too much rain...low temperatures and the extreme hot spells....weekends or even longer vacations away from our plants. Hopefully, you come home to the beautiful garden you left and are ready for the second half of summer!

August-September is all about family & friends getting together for cookouts which is when we all want our gardens looking their best.

If you have some empty spaces.......or your garden or pots are just tired.......

We have your back!

We have stepped up the water and care of the 4” Proven Winners for your’, “Tween-Season” fillers.

4” Proven Winners now 6/$20-$3.50 each

Weddings, while exciting can be very stressful for the bride & groom, family and all the vendors. Many events were rescheduled due to Covid...many times more than once.
This is where we came in....

We were asked to provide the plants and flowers for a very special wedding in Williamstown, amid the Grandfathers picturesque field of green.

He takes great pleasure looking out at his fields of wheat and green grass and did not want it mowed for the wedding but wanted color added in for the wedding.

This is where we came in.... with less than two weeks before the wedding.

Touches of color throughout the fields and trees, for the bride & groom, while still maintaining a natural presence.

We started with about 180 feet of annuals that had the look of wild flowersto edge the field behind where the wedding would take place.

There are so many beautiful trees on the grounds...why not hang some baskets throughout....with heavy jute cording and slings of burlap...a couple dozen drops of color looking like they were dropped from the sky for their day!

Finished up Thursday night with a couple dozen window boxes tucked under and around trees and in front of rocks.

The hardest part was watching and waiting for the weather yet to come. A wind storm or heavy down pour could be a disaster.
