Today is International Merlot Day and I'm recommending an oldie but goodie! Meeker Merlot is big fruit forward, full bodied and with nice tannins. The bottle is a work of art (save for a candle holder later.)

👃Nose: Dark fruits like cherries, caramel and toffee

👅Palate: Same as what you smell with a toasty oak

What temperature is optimal for Wine?

Red Wine: 55-64 degrees
White Wine: 45-55 degrees
Sweet wine: 44-45 degrees
Sparkling wine: 43-50 degrees

So if your room temp in your house is at 60 degrees, your red wine can be served at room temperature. If not, put your wine in the refrigerator and take it out about 30 minutes before serving and it will be just right!

I have a great dessert wine recommendation for National Dessert Day or any day where dessert is on the menu! 🍰

Sauternes is a French sweet wine from the region of the same name in the Graves section in Bordeaux. Sauternes wine is made from Sémillon, sauvignon blanc, and muscadelle grapes that have been affected by Botrytis cinerea, also known as noble rot. This causes the grapes to become partially raisined, resulting in concentrated and distinctively flavored wines.

My Journey

While vacationing in Europe, I casually noticed that everyone drank wine all day, every day. My limited exposure with wine at the time was sweet wines (Moscato). As I continued to travel that summer, my curiosity got the best of me and I experienced a European Wine Tasting . As the Sommelier began to educate me about the types of wines and their pairings, my palate expanded. Excited about this new experience, I became certified in Wine fundamentals I and II by The International Sommelier Guild.
