That time late last year when team Polished took on New York, for a quaint art deco themed intimate wedding of about 50 people for our couple Jessica + Armando. As the story goes, these two love birds crossed paths in high school, both thought the other was pretty cool...went off to different colleges. Jessica set her sights on the big apple and time went on. As destiny would have it, they found each other years later and guess what? It just so happens that they both still thought the other was pretty cool 🤣. Their wedding day was full of love and every aspect was tailored exactly to what they wanted. Complete with a beautiful church ceremony in Brooklyn, followed by a Michelin star dinner complete with apps + cocktails overlooking the Brooklyn Bridge held at for their reception, while guests enjoyed cocktail hour on the terrace overlooking water while enjoying having their portraits drawn by none other than during cocktail hour, we had it set to where our couple was city hopping with their amazing photographer, world renowned as he captured the most captivating images of them. We ended the night with lots and we do mean LOTS of dancing thanks to the awesome tunes + vibes provided by and of course the night wouldn't be complete without our couple having one last final photo overlooking the Brooklyn Bridge. Now both NYC + Jessica & Armando hold a special place in our hearts 🥰

Happy Friday! Let's talk cool ceremony elements that can be added should you want to:

•Think of ways you'd like celebrate your love (this is the main idea with ceremonies, solidifying and celebrating of the union)
•Think of the type of music you want played and who you want playing it? A sting Quartet? A Violinist? A Jazz artist? A singer?
•Do you enjoy performances? A fan of the ballet? These ballerinas were the perfect touch to what our couple wanted. They brought a special flair of regal elegance to the ceremony as they glided down the aisle as well as stood gracefully by as the bride walked down the aisle.
•Once you share your first kiss as a married couple, would you envision fireworks going off in the area perfectly timed? This would wow your guests!
•You could even have a pre-cocktail segment and have your guests to grab a glass of champagne while they grab their seats for the ceremony
•The point of the matter is that it's YOUR day and if you want to make it special, do just that. Throw out all negative opinions and do what you and your partner want.

Ways to incorporate culture into your special day:
•Write down which aspects of your culture you love
•Have your partner do the same
•Enlisting the help of a parent can also be helpful with this as they may know traditions as well
•Don't be afraid to wear attire that reflects your culture and don't be afraid to change multiple times on your day....I mean it is only the MOST special day in your lives 🥰
•Think of ways you can use your culture to find great entertainment for your guests (for example: if dancing is huge in your culture, what about hiring professionals for the dinner portion of your reception?)
•Focus on what you and your partner want and work with a planner to assist you with finding the right vendors to bring your ideas to life
•Be creative in your food selections, choosing appetizers or dinner selections that are true to your culture is a great way to do this!
•If you and your partner are from various cultures, you can consider having meal options from both (guests love having multiple food options as well so this can be a plus)
•Just have fun with fully immersing yourselves into weaving your culture into your special day ❤️

Here's how to create a timeless wedding day that will live on forever: (save this post)

☆Be intentional in your color palate. Think of colors that transcend through time...neutrals for instance will always be timeless.
☆If you want to add in bold color, be particular about how you incorporate it. For example, adding it to your menus, napkins, or even your seating chart allows you to include the bold color but still in a way that does not 'date' your wedding.
☆ Choosing a theme that is geared towards universal themes, for example: 'modern elegance' or 'classic romance'.
☆Two things that will NEVER go out of style are candles (they add so much romance to the room) and neutral florals (here's the plus...they are ALWAYS in season!!)
☆ Writing out a list of key elements that you want to highlight on your wedding day and seeking assistance from a professional wedding planner on how to make those elements come to life but in a timeless way is also a for sure way to having that timeless wedding you've always dreamed of!!

This is for the couples who want to look back on their wedding day years from now and not want to be able to say 'Yep! I can definitely tell that was a 2024 wedding"

After closely reviewing all of the applications this morning, I felt that God wanted me to not just select one winner....and thus, I chose three!! It was a hard decision as there were all great applicants, but these 3 stood out to me and their drive and passion for wanting to build their business and all 3 of them have one thing in common....it was that they all included in their application that they wanted positive connections within the industry that extended past the client interaction. Thanks to everyone that took the time to fill out the application 🥰

We're due for a check in. It's been 2 months since the last time I did one. On that post, we left off on: taking life slowly and something to the effect of "stopping to smell the roses".

Ok so boom: today is May 24 or 23 I honestly don't ever half know what day it is these days, or. ever. Anywhoo, life currently...let's get into it: definitely more resting these past few days because guess who was tired of waking up for school every morning when I'm not the one going was MEEEEE 🙋🏽‍♀️ so now that school is out I can breath a little. So that's that on that. Yes I meant to type that. I have fun with writing/typing these monolgues because I have an English degree and also have a warped sense of humor so this brings me profound joy 🙃.

Next category: Business life update...Wedding season for us has calmed down as I often take time off during summer to travel (we still take on clients, those are just the months that are best for traveling with the kids as they are out of school). Needless to say I am truly looking forward my upcoming travels and much needed relaxation.

I love that between our team and clients, we have cultivated a Polished family 🥰 they keep us laughing and we keep them on task but in a fun way. Couldn't be more grateful for them.

Closing this out with this....my mind is already in a different country. I said what I said. See you thought this was gonna end with me giving yall another motivational quote of some sort. NO GIRL I'M JUST READY TO GO ALREADY!!!!! 😫😭

Grab your latte, let's chat. It's no secret that I've been intentionally more expressive and forthcoming with the trials our team has faced. I haven't always done this. To me, that was part of the problem. Why? Because in my opinion, it creates the false narrative that everything is all glitz and glam and that our team is just living in this magical world where we have events lined up 24/7 and are happy every day. Because byyyeeeee that's just not true, nor is it real life.

God said that in this life we will have tribulations. So I figured, why not be transparent. Just as I share the amazing moments and highlight our beautiful events + clients, I feel a pulling to simultaneously share the hard things that occur in entrepreneurship as well. Newer entrepreneurs in this industry need to see that and know it exists and can exist even for well established businesses.

To be successful in business is to be fiercely consistent. No matter the obstacles that will come....because they will (anyone else feel like obstacles have a greater affinity for business owners than anyone else? 😫😭) but if you look at the businesses that have sustained....it's the ones that never gave up. That doesn't mean they didn't take breaks to rest + reset (cause at this point yall know one thing about me...I will take a vacation in a heartbeat 👀) but it means they found a rhythm in the madness that allowed them to still navigate.

Do you know how many conversations I had in my head from 2019-2023 where I was trying to convince myself to quit, shut the business down, this wasn't for me and how I just wanted to miraculously wake up a rich housewife 😫😭!?!?!! Had I gave in to those thoughts, I wouldn't be here today having this chat with you. I started the business in 2016 and after almost 3 full years of entrepreneurship (around 2019) I had decided IT WAS TOO MUCH 🥺 I was like girl somebody please break me out of this business owner ghetto-ville 😫 but I kept at it anyway lol.

Here's some motivation: it gets easier. It just gets harder before it gets easier. You got this!

Another year of life.
Another year of endurance.
Another year of God's grace.
Another year of reflection.

At this current stage in life my focus is impact. What impact am I making with my children, my husband, my family, my friends, my clients, my social media community.....I think about it all now more than often. In previous years my focuses were: work, excel, expand. Although there's always room to grow and we should never stop learning our craft....it's okay to reach a point where your grinding mode is put into somewhat a cruise control.

Polished Occasions is 8 years old now. With this, I have WORKED and so has my team, we have BUILT and it hasn't been easy. Therefore, what matters most to me is how am I being a positive impact. Truly. My days are different now. I don't wake up and think...how can I be the best today....that was me years 1-7. Now, I wake up and think....how can I bring joy today? How can I uplift my team today? How can I make my husband and children feel very seen and appreciated today?

Call it a mind shift I guess. Or maybe it's just that all of these years of working so hard that I now only want to indulge in moments that create memories that matter. Me being on my computer all day doesn't matter to my kids. Nor does it leave any impact other than 'Mommy works a lot".

These days, I guess you can say I'm taking a moment to stop and smell the roses.

Thank you to anyone that has ever supported this business. Thank you to my husband who has always been my number one cheerleader. Thank you to my children for adding an insurmountable drive to me.
