One thing that was super important to Elise was a relaxed environment that allotted for tons of photos before the wedding started. She was very understanding in agreeing to start hair and makeup as early as possible to have as much play time as she wanted. Yea it stinks waking up so early but it definitely has its advantages. Another thing that is key is understanding the financial investment in photography. I often tell my couples 10 hours coverage is the bare minimum needed to achieve this level of relaxation while taking photos on the day of. Here are a few things to consider when deciding on how many hours to book:
-Location. Are events at multiple locations? If so you’d automatically want to add in a hour simply for commutes and traffic.
-First Look. Doing a first look with bridesmaids, parents or your spouse definitely takes time and coordination.
-Activities. If you are having more activities in your wedding such as sorority/fraternity traditions, dollar dances, performances, celebrity appearances, sendoff, fireworks display, or even something as simple as a Catholic, Hindu or Episcopal ceremony you’d need to factor in more time.
-Substantial Decor Investment. If you’re spending a hefty amount on decor (especially if there is any type of room flip involved) time is needed. Often 2nd shooters can take decor shots but most luxury photogs also like to step into the ballroom themselves before the planner lets guests in. If you’re a content creator or want to be published this is the time for a ballroom reveal as well and that definitely requires time.
