I begin my home-based floral design and event planning business in 1999. On a wing and a prayer, I opened Heavenly Weddings by Angel and my mother opened Mel's Glass Bouquet. She started out in the church doing the corsages for the pastor's anniversary and other church functions. She always needed an extra hand. and with my 3 older siblings out of the house and me being the oldest at home then of 2 younger sisters and a brother, I would often help her meet her deadlines. I was a natural, I pick up the trade easily and talked mom into doing impromptu weddings for family, friends or her church members. She was afraid to branch out because she had 2 heart attacks and 3 strokes. Because of this, she remained in-home. It was sort of her therapy for those unfortunate incidents. Together, we had done so well with the small church functions, that I decided to get a license to do the floral design and event planning and push her to do the same Eventually she got her license too... and the Magic began. We received weddings and referrals, and business was good. I had found my passion. It was calming and I executed it with beauty, flare, ambiance and with a professionalism. I did not know where this was taking me with two younger kids and a husband to care for at the time. I just went for it. I can't say that I was in it for the money because it was seasonal work. I had to work long and hard hours in retail, attend college, along with working my business to help it grow step by step, little by little, even with the set backs. It's not where I want it to be, but it is not where it was. Business is no bed of roses. So, I grew and blossomed from where I was planted. “ A flower does not compete with the flower next to it...it just blooms. God whispered keep going in the midst of my storms. And I am til this day still growing, maneuvering, thriving, and humbling my self with each twist and turn, the ups and downs of every business venture that I have embarked upon. I love what I do. I love to meet people and network in business. But I love finished work and the thrill of the sale, and the smile of a satisfied or near satisfied customer. So my story is never-ending in business. I started in retail and it looks like I will end my story as an entrepreneur, and re-seller/retailer/graduate/author/CPA/wife/mother/but first a child of God.
