You can hear the Latin music that is his birthright – his uncles, aunts and grandparents played in touring mariachi bands, and often got together to play on his back porch. You can also hear the influence of the country and R&B music that was played in his house, and particularly the blues that drifted strongly over his backyard fence from the next neighborhood and took hold with Jonn to be the centerpiece of his musical identity.

Houston Irish Stew Cook-off and Music Festival has a new home! Join us February 15, 2025 - 11:00am to 6pm at Woodland Social located at 313 E Woodland Street, Houston, TX 77009. This location is two blocks from White Oak Music Hall and is in the same family of venues.

We have Blaggards returning with Think Lizzy, Hough Morrison, Godfrey's Rangers, Feo Y Loco, The Traveling, Murphys, Houston Highlanders, Houston School of Irish Music, and more new bands! This annual event is held in early February to help raise funding for the Houston St. Patrick’s Parade. We bring together Irish food, local food, vendors, friends, family, music from Irish roots to modern. Come and be a part of our Irish Family!

The Big Easy Social and Pleasure Club regrets to announce that The Mighty Orq will not be able to perform this evening, but come out to enjoy Los Souldees!

Los Souldees, a soul, blues and funk band, is made up of three monster musicians, David Delagarza (keys/vocals) from Grammy award winning band La Mafia, Chris Castaneda (guitar/vocal) and Jose “Chappy” Luna (percussion/drums) from award winning band The Suffers. We will also be celebrating, guitarist, Chris Castanedas birthday!!!

The Mighty Orq is one of Texas’s most exceptional and hardest-working talents. Born in Houston, Orq has a sound that is as diverse and unique as his home town. His music is a blend of delta blues, bluesgrass, folk, roots and psychedelic rock. Or more succinctly, Gulf Coast Roots Music.

Orq’s songs can be different for different listeners because he is so many things. He is bayou blues in a suit and tie. He’s gritty folk storytelling, unfurling from under an open road Stetson. He’s swampy juke joint fun, mischievous and free. He is classical virtuosity, improvised on a cigar box guitar. He is growling rock-and-roll.

Tweed Smith has been a part of the Houston community singing for over 40 years. Those of us who have the pleasure of experiencing the infectious energy of this dynamic singer attest to her flexibility throughout the music world. During the 1970s and 1980s was the only female member of the group “War.” Tweed Smith has featured on hits such as “The World is a Ghetto,” Cisco Kid,” “Why Can’t We Be Friends,” and “Low Rider.” In addition to touring with the “War,” Tweed appeared on the cover of Billboard, Cashbox, People, Blues & Soul, and Black Radio Experience. Also, Tweed Smith was a member of the national tour of Jesus Christ Superstar.
