Candid styles of photography are very popular both in general day to day photography but also in formal photographic situations. I have a DSLR which I take out almost everywhere I go. I find that my friends and family just expect me to have my camera out so when I do fire it up its not a signal for them to pose but its a normal part of our interaction this means that they are relaxed and the photos are natural. Because candid photography is about capturing the spontaneity of a moment and getting that perfect shot at the right split second of time I find that I think ahead and anticipate what is about to unfold in front of me. One of my favorite times to shoot candid shots is when other people are taking formal ones. My focus will be upon something which adds energy to a photo and it puts them in context and adds an element of a story to my images. What I love most about photographing children is that too often than most their innocence is lost in time and with age. Children give me the wonderful opportunity to capture that moment in time that lies within the pleasant surprise of a candid photograph that you can hold on to forever and relive it at any glance of my photo.
