History of Diamondwood
Sean and Sarah Catlett are the creative force behind Diamondwood Leather & Costumes. Sean began leatherworking after asking a friend, who worked with leather, to make a pair of leather boots and the friend said, “It’s not that hard. Now, over 20 years later, Sean is one of the most creative, innovative leather workers around. Each new project shows a new facet of his imagin
ation and talent. Sarah was taught to sew by her mom in grade school. She developed an interest in costuming and began to assist with costumes in grade school plays, continuing to do so through high school, becoming Head of Costumes for the Drama Club. When Sean and Sarah became involved with a fantasy LARP, it became apparent to them their individual talents could augment each other and Diamondwood Leather was born. Diamondwood Leather became a shop at the Michigan Renaissance Festival in 1994 and celebrated it’s 20th year there in 2014. Besides the Michigan Renaissance Festival, Diamondwood has appeared at many southeastern Michigan conventions and LARP’s. Some of their custom work has garnered First Place Costumes prizes at some the nation’s largest entertainment conventions including Origins (Ohio) and GenCon (Indiana). Sean and Sarah’s main focus is to make unique, high-quality items that look like pieces of artwork, but will stand up to actual wear and use. They take great pride in making their customers happy and providing the best service and quality at a reasonable price.
