Pioneer fishing tackle manufacturer and famous angler, Joe Pflueger (Center) of Akron, Ohio, coined Howey’s lakes as America’s best bass fishing grounds following an April 1926 fishing expedition.

Pflueger brought numerous new baits to test with C.E Baxter (Left), the local Izaak Walton League president. After landing a 14.75 pound black bass, measuring 27 inches long, Pflueger named the victorious bait after his cigar-smoking host, W.J. Howey (Right).
