Today we remember Mary Grace Howey Smith. Mary died on Valentine's Day 2007 and was laid to rest in the Pine Forest Cemetery in Mount Dora, Florida.

Named after her mother, she was born on July 1, 1921 and adopted into the Howey family, as their oldest daughter. In 1942, Mary married George E. Smith, Jr. from Eustis.

Getting the word out about the Howey groves was a top priority during the new citrus era. Investment booths were set up at retail stores, grocery chains, citrus fairs, and more.

This photo showcases one of these investment booths. Juice cans were stacked to create a hilly landscape to spell out 𝐇𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐲-𝐢𝐧-𝐭𝐡𝐞-𝐇𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬. Brochures of a full model of groves, hotels, and access transportation were also distributed to attract potential investors.
